Rant About Edison

How is it that Edison can run ad campaigns costing millions of dollars, but want to raise our rates at the same time? It's not like we have a choice who we get power from, yet they feel the need to run tv commercials telling us that they've been providing us with excellent service for over 100 years and how they are changing with the times. I've got a better idea..............cancel the ad campaigns and lower my rates.................

Rant over..........:(:(

I'm pretty sure the PUC requires that they spend a certain amount of money on psa's. And they have the right to collect that money from us, thanks to our wonderful government leaders.

They are also forced to use a certain % of alternate and renewable energy, even though that energy typically costs more than traditional energy. Again, thanks to the tree huggers and our genius government leaders.
And believe me those Edison workers have Fantastic salaries, pensions and job security.

Your paying dearly for that as well.

this is no joke my uncle and my dads friend son work for edison the son is 29 and a line man apprentice last year he cleared 147 grand. and my uncle cleared 189 grand. all of this is overtime on call work they are union and pretty much can never be fired. its a joke how much they make but i would not mind it my self:p
Isn't a linemans job also very dangerous?
yes it can be. ive worked wrecks where big trucks have taken out power lines and the lines are drapped over the wrecked truck and the power is grounding thru the truck. lots of ariel work in boom trucks so i guess the pay my reflect danger but when u reg pay is 31 bucks and hr and the overtime and double time adds up really quick i wish i made that kind of money. im on the side of the fwy hooking up a disabled rig right on the shoulder and people go flying past me at 80 and dont even bother to get over even a little bit. wheres my danger pay:)sphss:D:D:D

It can be yes. You couldn't pay me enough to climb poles in good weather not to mention during a storm. I've seen guys after burning a pole, no thank you. They earn every penny of what they're paid as far as I'm concerned.

If you're making $150K + a year at SCE on the tools, you have no life cause you're working every weekend and then some. And I've seen plenty of people get canned from Edison. It's hard yes, but it happens all the time.
For over 100 years.... "LIFE, POWERED BY EDISON" :D

oh believe me i know this and these the younger one is still an apprentice and gets all the shizz shifts. he is still trying to come up. my uncle has been with edison for 42 years and does mostly office work during the day but is on call 24/7 365 cause of his seniority he over sees alot of stuff at his shop. my uncle is also the union rep for his shop and hates it cause he has to go to bat for a lot a shizz bags that dont deserve to keep there jobs. thats union:)sphss

everthing being said is true. but the hours get long, alot of evenings with out seeing the family, and sometimes days at a time. everything has its price.we put ourselves in harms way for a nominal fee on a daily / nightly bases but we have no choice in the matter we are risk takers adrrenaline jukies. the compensation is a very comfortable lifestyle.
:)bulb let see, Cali has this big ol ocean, has water shortages, but gee, lets not build de-salination plants, that would make too much sense !!!!!!!, plenty of other places in the world do this, no big deal !!!!!!!!!!!!!, but not Cali !!!!!!!

I have a freind that works for Edison. After the fires in Yorba Linda he worked a crap load of days/hours without many breaks. He is always on call also.

I'm guessing that helo gets worked to death patrolling. In the old days they used trucks, horses or donkeys and it took forever. Guess the helo doesn't bother me too much.

The Helo does something like 4 times the amount of high voltage transmission line maintence with half the equipment and crew of traditional truck and bucket crews... Plus try hiking crews into the forest and desert to service remote line that is spread out all over the Southwest...

Linemen are a dying breed and the ranks are thining. You too can go to a community college for two years and get your education the will allow you to startup as a apprentice and train in a trade for 8 some years to become a journeyman.

A very dangerous job fixing down lines all over the place in 118 degree heat...

P.S. I am not a lineman I just love electricity (AirConditioning and refridgerators) and when I operate off the grid at a cabin hunting running diesel generators as such I realize how cheap the power from my meter is....

And yes... the advertising seems like a waste of time and money since you are a captive customer...

Yet when a cop does it, he is taking advantage of the "system."
