Cougar 19

HemiHydro, that second pic could be a postcard. Beautiful lake (and Cougar!) Jocko
That picture was taken just out side Salmon Arm on the beautiful Shuswap lake. The 25' tunnel in the back ground was one of the first 25 MTR out of the mold. It was the factory demo/show boat for a while till it was sold. Nice picture
Re Lost 19 V-drives still looking for info on the blue factory race boat that SNARK thinks went to Alberta?? Is it one of the original 10 listed at the start of this Thread??

AJ, apparently Elimintor never built a v drive tunnel of any sort. The one shawn bought from my dad was a blank that had to be rigged elsewhere. I believe somewhere in Az.I I beleive Liberator ( splash company would put them out), Mike (from CFW) converted his from a jet boat, which is where I think all 19' eliminators come from. They have a different bottom than the cougar's, I think youve heard all that before though. Steve

There are a few 21' v-drive Daytonas out there. The guy I bought the black one from had a brother with a twin white one. It had really ugly BIG blue seats and a low prf. motor. Obviously, there is Mark's (unchained) and I remember Steve almost bought one out of SoCal several years ago. It was lot's of pinks/teal 90's colors and had a blown BBC.
As far as 19' Daytonas, I think big steve is correct that they didn't have center pods (outboard hulls). Apparently they too are evil handling like the Brendellas w/o center pods. Here's a pic of one that had big power and I think it crashed. Jocko

19 ft tunnel

Perhaps the mystery blue 19 ft tunnel was the one i owned for appx. 24 years, and the last 3 years were spent on shuswap and mara lake. It was well known as it was clean, fast, and a head turner whereever it went. Prior to selling it i had the seats redone with carbon fibre inlays, 8 new auto meter carbon fibre gauges, and much more! Plus it won first place at a hot rod show.Right after i bought it, i named it BLUBYEU, i will try to post some pics of when i had it. thanks for reading, regards everyone!!

I knew a couple of people that ran stern drives in 19 and 21 daytona's

A sprint car s/b 19 and a 680 in in the 21

The 19 and 21 tunnel is one of the few boats you can run a v-drive, stern drive, jet and O/B.

A local guy here in Mi , Tom Earhart, bought that blue daytona off Ebay.
He has a big turbo EFI motor that he's going to put in it.

Did that boat come from the East Coast, pretty sure i looked at it. Owner said he was selling because it handled so bad, not a good sales pitch but i appreciated his honesty. He wanted $7,000.00 less motor.

These two pics somewhat clearly show the difference's between a Cougar and a Daytona. The pic of the Daytona is shot at a higher angle however still show the 3/4" different (deeper) center pod height of the Daytona. Those hulls were designed for outboards & jets. They work OK, but not quite as stable as the Cougar. When Cougar layed up a v-drive tunnel, they put a plug in the mold in order to bring the center pod even with the side 'sponsons'. Jocko

The 19's had 3 different centre pods I am aware of, my early 80 the centre pod is 1" lower than the outer sponsons and concave like a water ski. Know of a 83 the centre pod is even, and an 88 pod is even with a notch or step around 6' fwd of the transom. These are all outboards so not sure what was done with the mold for jets and v-drives. All the reuinions I went to never saw another like mine. Some place I had pics of the 3 different styles, I will try and find them.

I would love to see the pictures as we only had one 19 tunnel mold and it was originally a jet model hence the lower center pod . After the first v drive boat was built (which has been mentioned here as being dangerous over 90) all the rest had a 1/4 aluminum insert in the mold to reduce the depth by about and inch. Most if not all the outboards used the jet mold at least in the early years and there was no step in the mold (it might have looked like that where the insert was taped at the front).

Since this thread was trying to find all the COUGAR 19 v-drives it would sure be nice if someone could post some pictures of the blue factory race boat Thanks Cougar Dave

I thought he said he got it from upstate NY.

What prop was on it ?
Did he try some different ones to correct the bad handling ?
Some will leave the same wrong prop on the boat for it's lifetime.

The first few are of my 80, centre pod 7/8-1" lower than outer sponsons, Tom told me he rememered the guy that ordered mine. Never got all the differences out of him he would just smile and say it was special and look at the others to see what was different, you know Tom. He said it was lighter than the rest by 50-75lbs, no side panel upholstry, fuel tanks mounted all the way at rear, fuel tanks aluminum any I have seen were SS. Also came with ft to back ft seats that the last owner changed, kinda crazy to seat 7 in that boat.

These are 88's the arrows point to where the step is you can sorta make it out, had a good pic of the step but can't find it yet. The 84 is the same minus the step, bolth have centre pod same height as outer sponsons.

Will post other pic if-when I find them.
My boat handled fine till over 100mph then things get freaky, have been working with Jim Russell of Aeromarine Research on the handling issues. When done we figure it will run well into the tripple digits.
