Not True!

It can be done at home. But there are a few steps you need to be concerned with.I've never seen a manual on one, but the berk manual will give you the right idea. Hopefully somebody ditched the plastic wear ring before you got it.

Really??? All the ones I've seen still have the plastic wear ring. How you gonna set that up? I've built mine before, not much to it. Just takes 4 seals. Hopefully the bowl bushing is OK, they're expensive.

now this is the first time i have had to deal with a worn out jet, so if i rebuild this jet with the new seals and wear ring will that help me get up on plane faster? possibly be more efficient? and is the energizer kit worth the money when the time is right?

The energizer is only said to be 10% more efficient than a stock WJ. I don't think that's worth the cost.

Are you sure it's worn out? Does the engine rev up and you not go anywhere? You might just have an engine problem slowing you down. That's way more common than a bad pump.

If it really does have bad performance, check out the impeller for nicks and missing pieces on the intake side, then remove the bowl and see what the outlet side looks like. If it's boogered up, send it to MPD or some other jet shop to be repaired.

Sounds like back when I first got my boat running. Turned out the secondaries on my 4 barrel weren't opening. ;)

What RPM does the motor spin up to?

You can shim the impeller, index the bowl & if the wear ring is plastic either upgrade or atleast make sure the clearances are proper for starters. The bowl register on most suction housings are pretty sloppy, depending on the wear ring clearance care needs to be taken to make sure that when bolting the bowl on, the impeller spins freely without making contact with the impeller. You can half ass it and bolt it together and hope it works out or take your time and do it right and know its good.

Not sure how you'd shim the impeller, they're tapered to the shaft. And why would you want to? Honest, they work fine without getting half the machine shop involved. ;)

Northamerican Marinejet owns Jacuzzi.

Have you looked in the intake for junk stuck in the impeller? Mine gets little pieces of bark and grass in it sometimes and refuses to go. Doesn't take much to make them cavitate. I just find it hard to believe it's that worn out. Mine ran the same right up until the front bearing went out. When I finally pulled it down the impeller had missing pieces and was still working pretty good. :D

my pump is stock...it was hard to get on plane before i rebuilt it with the plastic wear ring and new imp. after rebuilt i could leave at full throttle and would not cavitate.. now with blower motor it runs 84 at 6000 rpms...not bad for a bone stock jacuzzi that people say cant go fast... i would like to know more about a different wear ring

Guess mine was worked over then before I got it...Shimable just like a berk. I'd want to shim it to set proper clearance. Why wouldn't you want to do that? I didn't say anything about a machine shop, just paying attention rather than tossing it together. If it works for you thats great!

If the pump is very bad when you inspect it, the WJ Kit to me is worth the money. Because, Even though you may only gain 10% at the time, you now have a pump with common parts that you can buy at a reasonable price. It also gives you the ability to use, Droops, Snoots, Wedges, etc, without having to machine and weld up a bowl. Just makes for a better all around deal. However, if the pump is not real bad, they are easy to rebuild yourself.
