Right now my engine is covered and I have thru hull exhaust. Considering removing the cover, dressing it up and doing over the transom headers. Pros are it looks cool and will lighten up the boat. Cons are it will be loud, get hassled by the police, and also having that back deck area makes it easy to climb out of the water into the boat and the girls like sitting up there. What are your guys thoughts? Do you like the dry headers or prefer the thru Hull enclosed engine compartment setup?

I almost bought one of those back 20 years ago....Wanted a covered engine and windshield.

(Rode in friends Kona lo-pro in the Delta....Something approx' 2" in diameter went zinging between us..."What was that?" "Bumble bee!" "Need a windshield!" (Additional; Another friend of mine was riding a moped and caught the south end of a north-bound bumble bee....Had a knot that looked like a golf ball was under the skin on his forehead!)

I like the safety and convenience of a covered engine.....There are so few real boats out there now(All buzz-jets and wake-tugs), you really don't need to show your engine to scare the locals......I actually have mufflers on my CVX-20 Jet w/460......Loud enough that when I start up at the marine everyone spins around and looks.....And one of my favorite things to do is to find a quiet cove, drive in at 30, cut the throttle, shut off and listen to the water as the boat coasts to a stop...Loud can get annoying after a while- even a great sounding American V8.....(Dang, I have 2 months before I can take the boat out!)

A lo-pro jet is like a '32 Ford Hot Rod, while a real jet boat (US V8(Not one of the buzz-bomb new jets)) w/windshield and engine cover is like a Corvette......That's my opinion.....(Yeah...It probably stinks!)

Haha thanks, yeah I would probably just get myself into trouble with dry headers anyways. Having the windshield is nice, it only comes up to about chest high but does deflect a lot of wind and bugs. The boat is incredibly fun to drive, when you floor it the thing stands right up and takes off like a rocket. It’s only a 16 footer so it doesn’t handle chop very well but it gets me out to the party areas.

The acceleration thing; My boat actually turns out to be a good ski boat (Center ski-pull and nozzle angled down a few degrees); I had a Collegiate skier try it and said he would never hesitate to ski behind it, giving it an 8 out of 10 for a Ski boat....Better tho, was another very good slalom skier; I told him I could throttle it back when pulling him up- He stated "I can handle anything you can do...my boat is a professional SKI boat- it's made to accelerate!" He said "hit it!" and I nailed it.....The Ski handle came half-way back to the boat when he let go......Circled back, asked (Innocently) "What happened?" and he said "Just throttle it back a bit!".....:wink2:

I say "Hit it!" and stand up....3 seconds 0-30....(I am ready for it and lighter so I come up easier)
