I know I should get better pictures, hoping someone recognizes this hull!

I read posts saying that a particular boat may be better suited to a river and another is better for a lake. What determines this? Layup? I have a boat that I intend to run on a river, and would like to know if it really matters. Also can anyone identify this hull and give me an idea of a reasonably safe top speed as is? I have only had it in the water once, but it wouldn't run good enough to plane out. Right now I'm just waiting to afford the imco gunnel tanks. Oh yeah, jacuzzi wj, no ride plate, loader( I think), no diverter.

That sounds good for me, for now! My first boat was a Taylor SS and it seemed to sit higher in the water at least by the transom. When I had this boat in the water it would run on the pump shot then choke and the wake behind the transom was making me a little nervous! I have heard stories about these boats being sunk fairly easy with a wake over the transom. Have you had any issues? This boat has zero for floatation and I'd like it to be around a while.

Post up the Hull ID # and the guys can tell you who made it. The difference between a river boat and a lake boat would be the freeboard or lack thereof for the most part. The difference beween a race boat and a river/ Lake boat would be lay up.

That's a new one for me. What is a freeboard? Boat has full stringers and a half bulkhead (I guess) under the bow in front of the gas pedal.
Freeboard is how much the boat sits out of the water when floating.

the term river boat just means it sits low in the water and takes water over the transome and or bow for that matter easy. since lakes tend to get quite a bit more chop, a boat that sits higher out of the water would be better suited for a lake. you deffinatly have yourself a river boat there. dosent mean you cant take it to the lake you just gotta be on your toes and ready to turn that bow into a wake when those god forsaken wake board boats come cruzin by. :D

Good news for me as it will be used on the San Jacinto river mostly. I know what you mean about the wake board boats. In my taylor I rounded a corner going faster than I should have been and came up on one that had the fat sacs digging the stern in. I had the diverter all the way down (tring to be polite) and stabbed the throttle going up the first wave trying to skip across only to stab the bow into the second one losing my hat and sunglasses in the process. I learned quick. There just aren't a lot of these boats in Houston.

With full stringer and Half bulkhead it is more than likely a Kona. Depends on the year. The latest I have seen that model Kona is about '74 or '75. Mine is a '73.
That hull has been splashed, vitually unchanged, so many times it isnt funny. It started with Tahiti as a short stringer, then Kona, Challenger (I think), Charger and so on.
Call it a lake boat /River boat its all the same, just not a race boat....Hal
