I recently purchased a 91 scarab sprint 17ft and ditched the turd 3.0l for a 5.0l ( that's what I had at the time) that I put togather it is all stock but through hull exhaust, edelbrock intake and a comp xtreme hyd roller cam. The boat goes ok but is not scary fast. What is scary is the porpoiseing I'm guessing the weight bias is totally screwed is there anything I can do to get it to act somewhat normal so I can get out the rest of the power to it. I am trying to round up enough parts to spray nitrous at it to see if i can power through it. What do you think is there any hope? I have tried props and whale tails they help trim control but that's about it I would like to add weight to the front but am not sure if That would do much for it.

Trim tabs will stop the porpoising they can be manually adjusted type you only need one setting anyway I had a scarab sprint with a 350 in it worked for me

Thanks for the welcoming. I am from southern Wisconsin. Ok I will have to give the trim tabs a try I was under the understanding they were mostly to help it plane out. I wanted to build a 350 or 383 for it but was worried how the hull would react to any power. How fast did your scarab end up going?

I lived in Kenosha and Racine for a while, a while back. Fun area with lots to do. Got tired of the Mid-West winters and moved back to CA.
Anyway... If you were closer I might be able to help out a little more. But, it seems you're getting the feedback you need anyhow.

Again, welcome. And, good luck :))THumbsUp

Do you have any pics of your sprint mdsheppi? What other problems did you encounter how did it handle the power how fast did it end up going?

I'd like to see where this goes, I have a 302 in my 21 ft Marada. I'd like to put in a big block, but I might just supercharge it instead. To keep the weight down. 38.5 MPH isn't cutting it.

383, would be nice, but 331 would give you some decent rpms. Believe me I'm a Chevy guy, I get it, I couldn't see myself building the next motor on a stand and it's a Ford. I don't think I could do it. Plus the 331 kit is 900. Crank rods pistons.
