I hope someone can answer a question about a volvo penta outdrive on a 22 foot schiada.
What hp can it handle? Reliable?
approx top speed with zz4 small block. Current owner states only 60. Really?

I don't think you will hurt it with a small block-should last ok-

my family had one in an ultra 21 open bow with a small block efi ford and it would go 70 when on ly 1 or 2 people were aboard. ran flawlessly for years!

I wouldn't worry about the drive. Like mentioned - the SBC shouldn't hurt it. Besides, in reality, engines don't kill outdrives - people kill outdrives.

As far as 60 - I would say that is TOP for that setup. Schiadas are heavy and take significantly more hp to equal same-hp speeds as newer/lighter/stepped-hulls. Apples to oranges.

I would think that 60 MPH would be very optimistic for that Schiada wiih the small block...

No kidding, my v-drive 22 with a 660hp 496 runs in the mid 70's.

whats the weight of your schiada ? ive got a 22.5 sun runner with a small block/290 out drive. it came with a pos aluminum 19(i think) pitch prop. with 3 in the boat, mild chop, and about 40 gallons of fuel, i was at 56 gps. i was over spinning that prop like crazy too. is you small block stock? what prop are you running ? what volvo out drive, 280 290 sx? single prop duo prop ?
