Post up a pic. Are you putting a 2 piece seal crank in a 1 piece seal block?

Didnt see the link the first time. I have used them and dont remember. Call Chris Straub. he sells them for B&B

I think you need to actually look at the block and the answer should be obvious. If the "lip" is about .030" it fits to the inside and will hold the thing square, as there is a tiny groove in the block and cap.

I re-read your post, apparently a shop put it together. I actually went out and looked at a Gen 6 block that I have here to determine that there is a small groove inside the original rear main seal surface where the seal adapter goes prior to my first reply.

The step goes to the inside. It helps lock the adapter in place.

Is this true for the 5 and 6 blocks both?

Stefs makes 2 different adaptors for the 2 blocks.I know its not a Stefs, but do both Stefs adaptors have the lip? Is there a place for the lip in a 5 block?
Not sure about that. This is a Gen6 block. You can see the groove:

If the OP had the adapter in the block before, then I'd say it's in backwards now.

That's why I was questioning. The groove seems to be self explanatory.
I have always wondered the difference between the 5 and 6 Stefs adaptors.

There is also a groove in the main saddle and with what appears to be a threaded hole. #4 saddle appears to have 2. WTF:wink2:

There you have it again. It goes to the inside. :)

I don't recall the B&B having a lip.
