I think the owners of apartments should be allowed to designate them non smoking. It's not the renters property. All buildings I own are non smoking. Anyone that doesn't like it can f&*king leave.

I don't think they should ever ban smoking altogether but it needs to be limited so it doesn't affect people that don't want to smell it. Personally, I think they should tax the shit out of all tobacco. $20 a pack and lower some other tax like property tax. Basically a stupid tax and lower taxes on smarter people who spend that money on owning property. :wink2:

Not socialist at all. Just like any business, it's evolve or die. Take all that land growing tobacco now and plant something else. More supply for food will reduce food prices. Win/Win for smart people who don't smoke :D

While I agree with your first statement, the property owners have a right to ban it, should the city be able to pass a law banning it in all apartment complexes? That is what it says in the article if you read it. What is next? Bloomberg banns smoking in your own home? Just how far is too far?

I think Bloomberg is a liberal kook. He is the most rabid anti-gun mayor I know of!

As far as raising taxes, that may be racist as most of the section 8 slugs smoke. ;)

It insinuates that might be next in the first line but the law being proposed would only require a written statement of smoking regulations for the apartment complex. Which I agree with. Actually banning it regarless of how the owner of the apartments feel, I do NOT agree with and never would.

Unfortunately most of what they smoke isn't taxed nor legal. I think it should be legalized and tax the shit out of it. :wink2:

Seems that would solve a lot of problems. People that smoke it are going to do it legal or not. May as well get some revenue from it (that no doubt the politicians would squander). It may diminish or halt the smuggling in from Mexico. Hell I am game. I have some really fertile ground that I bet would grow some high quality shit! ;)

It has nothing to do with smoking to me, I don't smoke and can't stand the smell of it. It's the freedom to those who do smoke that is being taken away. First it was restaurants and public places. Now they're trying to pass a law to tell you what you can and can't do in your own home? That to me is the issue at hand. :((((((

I agree with those bans. I believe people should be allowed to do whatever they want unless it infringes with another persons choice to NOT do it.

They aren't. They are just asking the owners to announce the choice of smoking or non in properties that they rent.

By means of smoking, I agree that public places should be restricted. And sure right now it starts with written rules in housing complexes. My question is when does it end? Hence the "slippery slope"

It's becoming a bigger problem than most people are willing to admit,it's hard to believe that shit will have to hit the fan in a big way to change the direction we are going....I don't see any other way...Our freedom has been slowly slipping through our hands for a good while now...When enough comfortable people get real uncomfortable, shit will start to hit the fan.....There is way to many slackers/thinkers/leaches pulling thier chair up to the table without hittin a fuckin lick,IMO soft-useless motherfuckers don't deserve to have an opinion on anything or anyone....

I don't smoke, hate the smell of cigarettes, love the smell of cigars, and own stock in tobacco. At my home you can smoke in the back yard with the fruit trees. They have never complained to me. I truely wish people wouldn't smoke only because it does cause health problems, but who am I to tell them not to it's a free country. And I don't want to hear about supporting their habits by owning tobacco company stocks, it pays a great dividend. Raising taxes on cigarette is in no way going to lower any other taxes, we know that for a fact. Once a tax always a tax

Not going to happen, nor do I want it. I don't want anyones right to vote, nor right to bear arms be taken away. Our freedoms are being stripped away, lets not lose anymore. If you want to fix the problem, fix welfare, fix healthcare. The problem with the government is it doesn't work efficiently. If welfare was run by an outside source-business, I guarantee all those that abuse it, would be caught and cancelled saving tax payers billions. If schools were run as a business where funds were given to the parents to chose where their children went to school, competition would be created and schools would concentrate on being better, working harder and I guarantee, be more efficient with an end result of better educated children.

I think paying for any of this is the least of your worries. What about those who refuse to get a job and live off the system? Or those who cross into this country illegally and we accept them with open arms and provide them with a place to live and free medical. At least there are funds generated on the already highly taxed tobacco industry. The others that we support provide little to nothing at all by means of help.

Don't forget about free education for "career" students.

Yes. but the smoking health costs become a taxpayer and/or health insurance burden. Just like not wearing a motorcycle helmet often causes accidents to be much more expensive.....an the taxpayers or health Insurance pay much more. I'm all for freedom to kill ones self ....as long as one's freedom does not cost others.
