Hey guys and gals. I’m trying to pinpoint who has the Smokin N Strokin boat David Kirkland and Jerry Wallace had. Randy Fawks, my great uncle, drove it. My dad and I have been searching high and low for the boat for ages it seems and everytime we get a paper trail it dead ends. I’m thinking maybe y’all can help.

Best of luck. Is this the TFJ that competed with the SDBA based out of Texas back in the 90's? Placecraft?

In an earlier forum form 2011 I saw Someone with the screen name ACTIONMARINE had was he said was the old Smokin boat. Not too sure. I’ve been scrambling the internet for years. Any help or leads would be appreciated. Here’s a few more pics of earlier boats between Jerry, David and the late 80s and well through the 90s.

These old threads may help:

Neil,

I have a little clarification on a few of the boats that came through your Dad's camp. Let me know if this make sense to you. The boat that Woodie's camp referred to as the "Red" boat is the Smokin' and Strokin' Cheyenne that I think is now owned by Mouse Tucker. It was in the Kirkland camp for awhile as David Kirkland was an earlier partner of Jerry Wallace in the Smokin' and Strokin' Top fuel Jet (Placecraft). Jerry was the original owner of the red Cheyenne and it came to Texas in late '85 or early '86, set up by J.D. Simms at Performance Jetboats of Dallas and debut ... I think at Corsicana in '86... where I ran against it in the finals.... and won.

The boat referred to as "The Black Boat" was the Strictly Business hull that Nicely blew over at Ft. Worth. The boat referred to as "The Blue Boat" is actually the boat Richard picked up from Reid Anderson out of the Dallas camp. The name off that boat has always been Final Answer and was previously number 316 and currently 822 and owned by Robbie Barrett. It was in Tyler for awhile owned by Clay Socia, and after his death the boat went to the bank and then eventually back to Robbie.

The 500" Pontiac that I have, as I understand it came out of the Pro Stock engine shop of Clark in TN. It is the 500" that was run in three of the Martin Cheyennes.... two of them (the Black and the Red) on the same day in Pine Bluff. From what I have been told, testing the same engine in three hulls, the "Red" boat was the quickest/fastest with the Pontiac, followed by the Blue then Black.

Which boat was the Kenny Watkins hull?

Since I mentioned Performance Jetboats of Dallas, I will also mention that they and Wallace both ran CP's in '85. The PJBD boat driven was Mike Straughan and tuned by J.D. Simms was known as "National Debt" the name uses previously by Marty Keegan who campaigned various Youngblood hulls.. Jerry's CP was aka Smokin' and Strokin'. In '86 PJBD came out with their "new" Cheyenne, again driven by Mike Straughan and tuned by J.D. Simms and the block assembly was owned by Nancy (now Davis) and won the UBGJ high points with my boat, Star-Fish, as high point runner up. The National Debt Cheyenne was later and now owned by Larry Morden, a partner with J.D. at PJBD. Larry has retired the boat and it sits in his home shop.
