that finally went to the track. The dyno sheet is to large to load but would like some guesses as to what this car should run based on the numbers.

Peak HP 633 @ 6400 Peak torque was at 4600 577#/ft

Now I will tell you the customer was hoping to run mid 11's with this, that was his power goal. He got flack from some people over the torque of this engine and the numbers not being "real". I did the cam only, customer built the engine, and he found a shop to dyno the engine. I did not know the shop.

So whether you feel the numbers are legit or the numbers are inflated what should the car run?

Also if anyone can manipulate a pdf file to resize it I will send it to you and have you post it on this thread.

What kind of car?

My 71' Nova went 11.23 @ 124 mph best with 450 HP.
383 SB long rod stroker with 12:1 and .530 lift solid.
turbo 350 and a 10 bolt posi w/ 5.13 gears.
spun up to like 7200 though.

That was a long time ago, so the numbers may be slightly off.

can he drive it? i'd say the manual trans and the driver are the biggest limiting factors. the power and setup should be able to touch 11's.

You don't know if the dyno info is correct and you don't know the rear gear, slicks, suspension and such. So, how are we supposed to even remotely guess guess ?

Well, if the dyno is correct and assume the 4:10 gear, then I'll make a guess of low 10's, again assuming it does not have any killer suspension in it, but having a decent form of suspension in it.

Then again, the rpm you show does not really go high enough to run this fast. The highest rpm you showed us was the peak hp rpm. What where the numbers past peak ? This is very important to drag racing as we will shift past peak and go thru the lights past peak hp rpm.

If the motors falls on it's face after peak hp then it will be a turd, no matter how big the #'s are before it.

Anyhow - with the data present this whole guess the ET thing is major conjecture.

Heavy car with street tires (I am assuming a real street tire, not a barely street legal cheater slick)... mid 11's sounds reasonable because he'll have to idle out of the hole. Should be a really fun tire scorcher around town! But I am coming from a track where everyone runs slower than they think they should. Bad air up here usually.

410HP 355 (had those stinky aluminum Corvette heads) in a 3700 Camaro with M22 and 10.5 M&H's ran 11.96 at 110mph.
No suspension tweaking. We are at a few hundred feet above sea level.

Here's the car.

If it's got street tires11.20-11.30 @ 122-126.

Slicks should do 10.70-10.80 @ 125-128.

IF he knows how to drive a 4 speed car. Let me know how close I get.

Haven't seen it. I'm guessing they see the car ?

"Street tires" can range the gammut from 265/70/15 BFG radials (normal) to Nitto 315/35/17's, to a 10.5" M&H or ET Street.

Anyhow, I'm saying that there is no way to guess because he mentioned he does not know if the dyno sheet is correct or not, does not know the rear gear, and has not mentioned the tire.

The more data that is given, the closer the 'guesses' will be to real life.

Only hard data I see here is the year, make, model, weight, and transmission.

i was assuming this is totally street trim, which means the biggest your gonna get under a 66 chevelle are 275's and even with a drag radial this thing will never hook up with the stock coil spring, triangulated 4 link they have, especially if they are stock type trailing arms and springs. this is way too much power to keep anything on the ground and to get this big old thing moving, and then adding in the factors of a clutch and 4 gears, i just don't see much more than mid 11s simply because of all the factors envolved. i bet if you put some slicks on it, do a little suspension work to it, and get someone that can really drive the thing. i would not be suprised to see it well into the 10's it has plenty of power to do it, but in street trim, its just going to be too hard to hook the thing with that much power....but maybe i'm wrong.

The tires are going to kill it. Some slicks and if he has the rear axle set up right for traction I think it would get into high 9's. Low 10's for sure.

He should easily be able to work that car deep into the 11's.


I am certain I could get that car and engine into the 10's with a little fiddling around with shocks, springs, gearing and tire pressure.

With the torque curve posted, I would pull 2nd and 3rd early, run third into the HP, grab 4th and note RPMs at the finish. Adjust gearing for peak RPM.
Then try different shift points for 2nd to Maximize launch recovery. (If He can drive)

630 HP At 3800# even with no HP loss through drivetrain I dont think he would get into the 9s at best 10.30 Imo.

Chris, glad the fools didn't run you off. Keep posting, it's good stuff. OK, my guess.
We ran 9.80's with the same HP at 2800 lbs. But it was in a really good full chassis car (pictured below), slicks, 6000 RPM stall converter, glide. I'd guess mid to high 11's if it's a legit street car with a decent driver and in decent air.
