Guy brought a Sonnys Ar alum race block to the shop it's a monster, but no info on it and Sonnys also has no info as it's from 1995 and not on there records. BBC based 11.750 deck 4.750 bore on a 4.950 bore space and the lifters are jesel key way 1.050

no heads I am sure they would be in the big chief family but I was told by Sonnys that back then they made there own heads with there own bolt pattern so my guy may be i trouble.so I may have to order a head gasket for the big chief head in that bore space and see if I can get lucky.
This thing may lock good as a dinning room table for x-mas.

any one know if Alan root is still around?

You're going to have to do a bunch of research. You will need a custom crank on that bore space, custom cam-same, heads, intake, cam drive, oil pan; all going to have to be special made for that block. That was a time when there were literally hundreds of different configurations being experimented with and who knows...you may have a one-off.

He has most of the short block, pistons with ti rods, crank and cam. We get a lot of this kind of stuff here lots of one offs but it's hard to get paid for leg work sometimes. Hope to get some answers at the pri show next weekend.

Many of the AR blocks as well as some others, like the Race Merlins or the day were cast with extremely thick decks, extra wide bulk heads, lifter area was nothing more than a raised boss the length of the block. They could be machined for different deck heights, lifter layout, and bore centers by the teams, and they were. Like Steel posted, everybody had their idea of to try next. Most of all this was driven my the IHRA Pro Stock class with the mountain motors.

The 4.950 bore center is your biggest hurdle because NHRA settled in at 4.90 for Pro Stock and the Pro Mods are at 5.00.

I think that Alan Root made Ford Hemi heads to match that block.Nick Arias Jr would know. :thumb:

Thanks, i talked to Alan root and we both had a good laugh over the block today. I have a lot more info then I started with of course he was a lot of help.

Think I will polish the block and put a 3/4 pc of glass over it with some led lighting at the bottom of the bores and put it in the living room of my house. :)eh:)
