This is a photo of my number 2 plug. I was told to take the readings from the front of the engine since the front gets the cooler water and the back gets the hotter water
What do you all think? Too rich? Just right? The base of the center electro is a bit darker than what is shown.

First of all Put the right spark plug in your engine for your application.
Looks like your running a Platinum plug or something for an electronic fuel injected car. does not work with a carb in a boat. Put a proper plug in, and it will quit fowling it.Then you can tune your motor.

The Plug is a AC Delco #4 Marine Plug. I guess that it being SS is what makes it marine.
NGK's B8ES??? Dam I run those in the Banshee. lol. I'll give em a try this weekend. If I can find the R I'll get those. I cant remember the code but I know they had them in resistor.
family matters, I haven't addressed that sputter yet. Not sure if I want to just ditch the power jet. Old guy says to get rid of it and I just might.

These plugs were in the Liberator when I brought her home. But I'll go ahead and change them. AS for WOT thats gunna be tough. No wake zones are all over the place and then changing them on the spot? shit them headers are freaking H.O.T. and darn thick. I better get a spark plug puller.

Thanks for all the help. I kinda know which way I need to go now.

Fiat48 Thats a good site but seams to argue with everything else I have read. Some say read the porcelain others say not to. This is what kicks me in the balls.

Family Matters Whats this EGT you speak of.

IMOP from the looks of that plug you have alot of idle time and no wot time. The white and heat shown on the electrod tells me that the motor is way lean on the top and idleing fat. I don't fnow the set up and how the boat was ran prior to plug pull but I would say thats an o sh$t situation. Cave, I do remember the the site name but not the situation, call back. M

BB Chevy GEN VI 502 bored 30 over. GM Aluminum Performance heads here is a pics.

I don't have all the specs as I picked up the boat in mid February. I was told that the engine was built low compression for a blower. The pistons are SRP 139482
Lifters GM171200061. The heads have had a radius blend valve job. Engine was balance with the flywheel. All this from the build sheet from Chucks speed center in Phoenix.

Ol Guy Yes I do have a lot of idling time on it. The no wakes here are long especially to the back beach. I do get on it between the 2 no wake zones. It turns 5K but I keep it at 43 to 47 k with a 5K rev Limiter chip. It had a 7K chip but I switched it out.

The boat runs a solid 70 on the lie detector, GPS. 73 tops. I run 50 50 Av Gas / 91. I have run 100% av gas but didn't notice much gains.
Electrical is all new except the actual MSD Marine distributor. MSD 6AL Box and Blaster coil II. I have the III to as a back up. MSD 8mm Plug wires. AC Delco 4 Spark plugs, yea yea I know get some real ones.

I don't know what the cam specs are.

396 (Mike) prolly knows more about it than I do.lol.

I do know that this Liberator runs great. Its just the sputter at idle that drives me nuts. I'll work on it this week end.

I appreciate all the info you fellas are throwing my way.

Get rid of those Plugs . Put in a NGK R5671A-7 and run it I can read those plugs even if you idle doesnt matter as long as you make a Wide open pass or two. then bring plug by the shop and I'll look at it. Bet your Idle miss goes away also. Good luck.

Good Info. I know 2 strokes and jet mine on the breaking edge but don't want to do that on the boat.:D I can always get a tow on the Banshee or push it home but I cant push the boat.

blownjet13 you gunna be at Bartlett on the 17th?

Family Matters, I don't have all the info on the cam. I just know the boat runs great when I punch it. I just thought that my sputter was either the plugs loading up or the carb dripping. The carb is a Holly DP 4150 850. I haven't pull the bowls yet to check the power valve or the jets.

Lots of good info here. I'm gunna copy this stuff on my PC. I don't want to loose info like I did at Hot Boat.

ngk plugs rock:)devil i work at a dealer and when its tuneup time for my customers, i don't put the plat. delco's back in;) it'll get the basic low buck ngk as per application and i've never had an issue with them. plat plugs are a great thing in a auto, but not in a boat imo:)bulb

How Bout This 1

Last night I broke a plug putting on my dry headers(with a/f set up) so I had the phone in hand to order 9 more and I thought I'd get an opinon or 2. If the electrode is white is that too hot of plug or too lean or both? plug is a ngkr5671a-8. Thanks
BTW run time is about 1.5 hours and it took me 30min to warm the sum b up.

AFTER warming it up, put in UNUSED plugs, then do a color run, remove them, and THEN read.

Porcelan will remain white, forgetabout it.

This has always worked well for me:
