Has anyone machined-off the trailing edge ridge from a sportmaster gearcase housing? If so, what were the results? I just got a new case to replace the one I snapped a skeg off of a few weeks ago and I was thinking about cleaning it up a little before transfering all of my internals over. I don't want to mess with the water intakes, as I like my water pressure just the way it is. I just can't figure out the need for the ridge. It seems as if it would only cause some drag and maybe a little lift. Anyone have any input???

I'm not sure how it will effect the Mirage but on an Ally you will be making alot of violent right turns. The ring is there to help stop blow out. A right turn at a buck 12 dosn't sound like fun to me.

Yeah, Kevin told me the same thing today, that it's there to prevent blowouts. They're not as catastrophic on the tunnels when they do happen, but they're still not a good thing. For what minimal gains I've been told I could expect from mods to take the chance on more common occurences of blowout, it's not worth it to me. I think my 2.5 os/ss is going to stay bone-stock for another few years! :p

Come on grind it off, you know you want to! I don't have one on the case I'm using now. :)hand
No, you know what Jangles, I really don't want to grind it off. I'm gonna' leave my Mirage stock, as a pleasure boat should be. I just ordered a real race boat last Friday to go racing in next year - a Revolution Boats Formula 2 SST120. You should get one, Region 11 and Region 12 guys will be getting together at the same events next year to run our 120's. The more boats on the water at the same time the better! I hope some guys from the SST45 class move up as well, so we have a large class next year. Come on Jangles, time to strap your ass in a capsule boat!!!

I'd leave it all alone. Mine works great on my STV, at least to 112. The "angle" is the torque tab to offset the torque of the prop on the wheel or the amount the boat wants to crab when going straight. Lots of mods available (Titus cut, Allison cut, etc), but I don't think you can go wrong with stock unless you're looking for 1 or 2mph and racing the boat.
