HELL YEA! I found this today in the Yuma Daily Sun (my hometown) and I completely agree with this woman and I was quite surprised to read some of the replies in the comment section (link below).

Stop enabling use of Spanish

Recently and in the past, I read a lot of articles on teaching English to those in school, and also have heard a lot about having to press "1" for English on many business listings. In our very own paper, there is a section on learning to speak Spanish.

My question is simply, why are we making it easier on the non-English speakers by providing these services? Why not have a learning English section in the paper?

Our country has been "invaded" by illegal immigrants. In the past, they were encouraged to assimilate if America is where they wanted to be. Now it seems we are accommodating them at the expense of our own identity as a country.

Businesses, please remove the press 1 for English. Yuma Sun please start printing a learn English section. Stop being the enablers to this growing problem.

I have to greet all my customers, at a city government office, "Buenos dias," or whatever it is... This is not helping them by catering to their lack of ability, it just allows parasites to feed on them (another story for another time)

Looking for ideas to help change this

They can either put forth the effort to become "one with us" or just kill them and say "problem solved".

I actually took a moment the other night as I got ready for bed to look around at all the Corporations that have sold their souls and added espanol to their packaging. Roughly 50% of the packaging on our sink...INCLUDING my wife's tampons, had spanglish print right along side the english. "Pushe le coton in la panocha"

Like it or not, we as a country have ALLOWED this to happen by continuing to support the businesses that embrace the "press 1 for english" mentality. I bet many people on these very boards still bank with Bank of America...AKA Bank of Amigo...even though they will now issue credit cards to people without Social Security numbers or bank accounts. Gee, I wonder who those people might be???

It's probably too late to do much now because the number of illegals and political momentum behind the illegal immigration movement has become significant while we all sat back and watched. ANY attempt to interject common sense is now deemed "racism"...even if you don't mention a race.

There's a Mcdonald's billboard right down the road from my house in Spanglish...right across the street from the Spanglish part of town. It was America and the American way of life that allowed them to prosper and become an Empire...and they sell their souls right in front of the families of the very same people whose sacrifice made their success possible.

There will be a knock on each of your doors late one night for voicing your displeasure against the "grand socialist plan!"

During the speech delivered by presidential hopeful Obama, he ardently insisted that the need for immigrants to learn English is not as important as it is for Americans to learn other languages, specifically Spanish. Obama even made reference to American's ignorance of other languages by mockingly saying that it is embarrassing that immigrants come here and speak English but that when we travel to Europe "all we can say is 'merci beaucoup!' "

SO, does that mean you need to learn Vietnamese? :D I lived in Yuma for 13 years and learned Spanish because its a border town and I went to Mexico (El Golfo & San Luis) quite often and wanted to learn it just to get by when I was down there and keep out of trouble....... IF I lived there I WOULD most certainly learn the language. I see NO f'ng reason they can't learn the ENGLISH language if they are here. Legally or not. And I go by the old saying "Learn to speak ENGLISH or get the f*^% out". Period.

AND I SURE AS HELL DON'T SEE ANY SIGNS IN ENGLISH WHEN I AM IN MEXICO.

I have traveled the world and never not at least attempted to speak some of the language with my pocket translator and some studying before traveling. You are in America speak the language and it is not Espanol.....There is a heavy note of sarcasm in my original post.
