I am replacing the kona with a sanger superjet.so I have a few questions .First off the guy I purchased it from called it a 17' 10" and not an 18' is there a diferance? #2 will this boat respond to a set back pump? And last has any one put full stringers in one and any pics. My intentions are to clean up the bottom and do a quick paint job then transplant all the goods from the kona to the SJ. Thanks.

yea 2 inches different, but won't make handling change! What kind of power you looking to put in it?
It sould respond good to a setback pump, but will require a good set up ( Rideplate, shoe, grate,) and possiblie some bottom work depending on, if there is a hook and rocker in it, or to much rocker, or much hook! As far as stringers I believe there is a big thread on here all about that!

If you are at all concerned about it, skip painting the very bottom...That way you can play around with setups and not have to do anything twice:)devil

As for setbacks, shoes, rideplates, droops and any other trial and error mods, find someone that owns one and see if you can go for a ride, or better yet, drive it.

Setbacks and so on are not easily reversible and once done you are a little stuck with what it does.

If it were mine, I would put it together as it was built and see where you're at, it should outperform the hell out of the Kona.

As for the stringers, how much power and how fast to you desire to go?

That is a huge job that can go sour in a hurry if you've never done one.

Hope you find this helpful...;)

Your boat is technically an 18' , Sanger Jets (for the most part) had a unique jet intake castings (differing from most berks) as well as a round "Sanger specific " transom adaptor ring (requires pump removal (and motor) forward not back ) the last two Sangers I owned had the pumps set to far forward for my likeing. Maybe take a pic of the area between the back of the intake casting and the "dead back' of the hull (underneath) Tom

PS the Sanger (great bottom) will likely out perform your Kona if set up right

PSS the only Sanger SJ or Sprint I have ever seen beyond thier V-drives that had full stringers was mine , a "one off" (bought from GT and sold recently to Jrork I cant say the boat wouldn't benifit from full stringers but it would be an enormous job $$.
