We use a spin on for most of our new BBC engines so we can inspect the contents of the oil for clarity or issues after initial startup/break-in/dyno tests.

Friend tried one on a 509 drag car engine with less than good results. Although improper block finish was the root cause of the problem, the micron rating was fairly large and allowed to much contamination to circulate through the engine till it ate itself up. For checking your lubrication system on a Chevy or any engine that takes a similar spin on filter, Moroso makes a stainless steel screen that sandwhiches between the top of the filter and the filter pad, no need to cut open the filter, and no flow restriction, easy to see if you have junk in your oil.

check out speedflow.com.au there making filters now and the may be a better micron to suit your needs.

any one using a system one oil filter

I used one for years.... if you use one make sure it's the 30 micron screen not anything larger.

For an endurance engine that's going to stay together for a couple/few years I'd use something else. Using a System 1 for engine break-in or dyno runs is fine, or running it one weekend on the water maybe.

I just order one from their "garage sale". Suppose to have a small anodize blem on it. Oh damn! $85.00. I let you know what I think of it. Worst part is, if I like it, I will be forced to order another because I run a HM dual filter oil cooler:mad:
I know of a well known shop that is using some,, we have one of the inline type going on a turbo engine,, hopefully on the dyno next week. The flow numbers are supposed to be good.

You can't order from the "garage sale" on line. You have to call the order in. While I had them on the phone I mentioned that they say NO PRESSURE DROP when discussing there flow numbers. Well that a physics impossibility. All flow is a product of pressure differential. Pressure in verses pressure out. He kind of laughed and said yeah, you're right. When I asked the pressure drop across the filter at that flow, it got knid of silent. I have a feeling I know who makes their elements and will knwo for sure when I see one. If its who I think it is, they flow like crazy, while still doing an admiral job of filtering. One thing is fairly certain, if you run the 4.25 long filter, the motor can pass that much oil. The only reason for running the 6.25 long filter is crude capacity.
Also, it isn't immune to water. Its a shit load better than any paper filter, but only a screen is immune to water MIXED with oil. I have a feeling they tested it flowing pure water. It just might handle that pretty well.

All in all, I think its just might be a damn good filter. Just wish the freek'n thing wasn't BLUE:angry:
