I have been checking them out. Want to make a family trip up there late January, early February for a week. Will have three small children with us. Need to be close by Heavenly and the casinos.

Anybody got any input on this or have any contacts for a reasonable rental?

Would Mammonth be the place to go instead??????

Thanks for any info at all.......

Wife and I usually do an annual trip and stay in a cabin at Zephyr Cove. Right on the water. We walk out onto the beach and champaign toast the sunsets. Nice restaurant (very casual but very good food, esp. breakfast). Snow mobile rentals, Tahoe Queen cruise to Emerald Bay.

About 6-7 miles north of town on the NV side. We like it because it's far enough out of town to feel like a mtn. cabin, but close enough to go into town for the evening for dinner, gambling, comedy, concerts, etc. It's not 5 star, but more like a cabin. We hit up safeway for groceries for a couple meals.

They have package deals. Call them direct (get the local phone# from 411) to get best deals. The 800# won't get you the best deal.

We ski/snowboard a couple days, then snowmobile and cruise one day. If you snowmobile, pay the extra to get a private tour. They'll take you off trail and ride up to your aibility instead of the mule-train tourist thing. The tourist thing is fun too, if you just want to take it easy.

We drive up there. Could fly commercial, but the drive is incredibly beautiful, especially past Mammoth.

Thanks ATL.....I always go by there when up in that area. They have pretty good biscuits/gravy at that place. I usually only hit it for breakfast though. You are right about the private snowmobiling by the way. I have been there with a bear running amok thru the parking lot. That was pretty exciting to see :)

I will call them and check it out. Would definitly be a good option to look at....

If you go to Zephyr, look at the property map to pick your cabin. Depending on what size you need/want, #10, 11, 12, 13 - in that area are the best. Those face water and are about 50 steps to the beach.

You won't see the bears in Jan./Feb., although I'd love to see one.

Also good for breakfast (lots of food) is Heidi's. Over by the road up to Heavenly on the California side. Across the street and a little bit further west is great Italian food. Can't remember the name. Nice higher end restaurant: "Fridays Station" in Harrahs.

This past year, we happen to be there when STYX was playing. Stood right next to the stage in very small venue. Unreal. They put on an excellent show. Just saw them again a couple weeks ago w/38 Special and REO Speedwagon.

If you have a desire to visit the baniff area, ski Lake Louise, Norquay, etc, pm me. A bit cold in January, but March is super.

FYI Westjet now flies direct from San Diego

DILLIGAF,

That chalet next to Heavenly looks like the spot if you want to have a view of the woods. Nice spot.:)devil

If you want lake front check out rental in Tahoe Keys. Nice houses there. its less than 5 minutes from the Casino in SLT and is ON the water.
