I have a 1991 21' Conquest with a Mercruiser 454/bravo1. I picked it up used a few years ago and after replacing the floor, touching up the gelcoat and having the upholstery replaced. I have fallen in love with the thing. I've owned and been around boats throughout my life, but this is the first time I've owned or wanted to go bigger with an I/O. I've been a voyer on the site, chatted with some, and asked the advice of others for the past couple of years attempting to develop a solid plan, IMHO it worked. Or has at least met the first solid benchmark. The Performance Boats inspired, Mike Slover ported Edelbrock aluminum headed, Crane HR-234/239-2S-14 cammed, JE 18cc pistoned, 4 bolt BBC 496 made 589hp and 607ft/lbs tq on the Westech dyno last week. All before or at 5600 rpm, the dyno sheet is attached for critique. I'm currently installing hydraulic steering, trim tabs and the motor expecting to have it at Havasu in June. I can't wait!!!

Thanks again to all for the input, advice & parts deals!

If you do not hammer it out of the hole it would be alright. You are at that edge where you might want gear and shaft upgrades.

Breaking the drive was/is my main concern. Oppinions on the forum are gear and shaft. Oppinions from industry techs, boat builders and servicers, AKA people who could sell me the parts..."learn to roll on the throttle and monitor for metal in the lube because upgrade parts have been known to fail".
