not sure what was really happening, but it sure seemed like the CJ guys arent very friendly towards one another esp. new guys. Mason was out there for his first race supporting the class and it really seemed like the vets were kinda blackballing him. and all the complaining and bitching about bandys legal motor last season kinda supports it even further.

CJ guys get along just fine. If one needs help the others help when they can. I've seen guys lend parts to other racers to get them to next heat. Race day is always a little different. Everyone thinking about what they need to do. So it might just look unfriendly.

Not sure where you get that idea... I think Tom's congratulations for Mark (CJ169) above is a demonstration of the great camaraderie we have in the class. Jack and Tom are a welcome addition to the class as is Billy Mason.

As to Billy Mason, he didn't like having to start on the outside as required of a Comp Jet rookie. He must have the approval of the Race Referee to be able to run without restrictions. Besides, he did a great job pacing our starts and I think he scored enough points for 3rd overall. I know he has some experience in endurance and ski racing but sprint racing is a different animal. I raced an SK flatty from '68 to '75 and Comp Jet from '76 to '82 and when I came back into the sport three years ago I had to start on the outside and wear a white rookie 'X' on my helmet for a year... No big deal for me.

As the class rep. I did my best to smooth things out with him and make him feel welcome and so did the other drivers. I hope he comes back to race with us but he needs to bring a thicker skin if he does.

Jack and Tom are a welcome addition(seems people at Burley like spreading rumors and making accusations, there's a proccess and a way to go about it if some feel others are cheeting or not following the class rules) to the class as is Billy Mason.
(the kind of behavior that has been displayed toward the Ballinjack race team(behind are backs) in know way, is how you grow a sport or class, fortunately some show more maturity than others and know why we are their. i personally am their the race and not play politics)

just a small piece of my mind, it is unfortunate that some feel so threatened they need to bad mouth others behind there backs and be adults about it enough to approach or go through the correct channels. i am very aware of what has been said about are program behind my back and am willing to have those prove i've done something outside the rules, but until then i will let my talking be done on the track.
hope all have a great holiday season and happy new year.
see you at the next race, be safe and good luck.

Threads like this bum me out. Yeah, Jim Rich and I had our CJ feuds in the past, but this is different.

(for those who are wondering, Jim and I have put the past behind us and speak on a regular basis. :))THumbsUp)

Tom, I was there at Burley and I witnessed the above BS first hand. Every time someone said something positive about how well you or your crew was doing, someone was right there to scream the words 'illegal motor'. It was sad to see someone so desperate to create a legacy  have to go to that extreme. You and Jack put your money on the table to shut them up (here) and they never came forward. Though it screams poor sportsmanship and makes the class look bad (hence what Grady said). I personally don't like it and its not what the class was about. Back in the NJ days it was awesome. Early CJ days were awesome as well. I know when the turning point was and lets just say that poor sport has rumored to retire from CJ.

That being said, I will be back out there soon and I am looking forward to it. Through all the BS mentioned above.... I didn't like the direction of the attitude of the class was going either and it really made me question my future in comp jet racing. I only made it a point to go to the Burley race so my Mother (who lived in Boise) could see me race, who passed away shortly after. (RIP) It was the best decision I ever made, she loved it and couldn't stop talking about it.

Lets remember that we are racing for $5 plaques and bragging rights, not multi-thousand dollar NASCAR type contracts. We all spend tons of hard earned money to do this, lets just respect each other and the fact we are all there doing what we love. Lets put this crap in the past and move forward.

Sorry for all the "Kumbaya" crap, but I just would like to see this class get back to what it was all about.

Well said Brad.

Sorry to hear about your mother.

Hopefully C/J can go back to a few years ago when I started hanging around. I had a blast and I know everyone racing was having fun too! the last few races I attended seemed to have a different vibe. Its cool to have different camps, different ideas. different set ups and good competition, I think that helps build and grow the sport but Its not cool to have guys bad mouthing others on the shear fact that they got beat. just my 2 pennies.

Sorry to hear about your mother.

Same shit happened when Harold Bruce was winning! Everyone was crying that his motor wasn't legal but would not step up and claim they said it!
