so i never thought this would happen but i got pulled over on saturday about 11 am coming back down from picacho for having a roostertail on my outboard. and apparently the guy behind me was following too close to it and i got popped for it.

it was a yuma county cop so he was chill and let me off with someone of an easy stop but still WTF a ticket for having a roostertail on and outboard you have to be shitting me.

So he let you off? I've never heard of such a thing. Jeesh...so what law were you BREAKING?
hil:)NO hil:)FUGGEN hil:)WAY:D
Ya see what us jetters got to deal with. Hey dale I was warned years ago when a jet ski flea was trying to go under my roost. Same deal with wake boats. If they swamp you with there wake they are responsible...

no he didnt let me off still go the ticket but he was being pretty cool and not being an ass like some of them can be.

i guess the law is for a roostertail there cannot be another boat within 60ft or you because its obstructing view i knew that law was for jetboats and their jetovators but damn i didnt think it was for the outboards or at least didnt think my roost was that big but apparently it was

Count Me In

I could not believe that every cop in Arizona was working this weekend...

On our way in from Cali I was laughing my ass of at the number of people pulled over on 8 by the CHP just past the dunes.

I then made a left turn from a designated "thru lane" and the Arizona Highway Patrol reminded me of that as I was pulled over and the laughing stopped. I got my citation (has my social security number on it----(what do they get from the illegals?) and it is on an 8x11 sheet of paper. So we will wait to see what that costs the family...

I then get to Pruitt City and start hearing the tale of "the flash" which boiled down to some of my buddies seeing the flash of the camera from the photo enforcement zone as they were speeeding on the 95.......Started laughing again, then the Captain/Coke took over and it was off to the races..

Hope you all had a good time.....Back here in SD where it is 40 degrees cooler

what gets me is when they pulled me over the guy said your roost was on (mouth dropped open and chuckled to myself) i said sir i dont have a roostertail switch he said well jsut a second ago it wasnt on and then when your buddy pulled behind you to follow you you turned it on (mouth dropped open again and said) sir this is an outboard i dont have a jetovator , i then decided to shut my mouth and no longer argue and just take the ticket and the full on check but i will say this the cop was impressed cause i had all my chit out before he was able to even ask (obviously ive been pulled over a few times before)

thi amazes me that the sheriffs out there dont know a whole lot about the boat they are pulling over or at least this one didnt

its a "overtime weekend," so you have a lot of cops that don't know chit about the water laws or boats for that matter. u could fight the ticket, but its a 50/50 shot.
not to many cops on the water in parker but on the AZ side on I95 they where swarming!!! a local said they where after the CA plates too. Good to know about getting swamped, happened to me all friggin weekend!!

Get 2 videos of your boat running one, From the inside of your boat, And the other video from another boat running beside you showing you do not have a roostertail coming from your outboard. And maybe show you on the video trying to make a roostertail. That might help your 50/50 shot.;):)

Pictures are worth a thousand words, or in this case, a few hundred dollars and no points on your license. Show a jet boat with a nice rooster tail and then show yours and explain how they differ. Hell, I'll even spray you for free. :D
Dale has more of a mist coming from his transom:D Id fight it. Shit Dale these guys are on to sumpthin. My Kachinas OT Headers through more water than your prop.:D

yes sir i know that that why i was amazed and he said that my buddy was having his view blocked by my roost and that he was closer then 60ft away when the cop saw all this he was heading directly towards me and was about 300 yards away from me (kinda hard to measure the distance of the boats when your in front of the felon and a long ways away

im going to fight it and show up with my buddy that was driving the other boat to say he was alot farther away from me then the cops thought since they couldnt tell being they were in front of me and a long ways away
Congratulations Dale. You have now been jumped into the "Need an excuse to pull you over to get a DUI nonsense". It's getting old. We got pulled over in Yuma because my buddy had his foot over the rail of the Pontoon boat. It's hard to go to the river any more and relax without watching your back, and wondering if you are going to get pulled over because your boat splashes water, or you headers make noise, or you are too relaxed and kick your feet up one the railing. It seems too me there are alot more productive things the law could be doing.

i agree with you 100% there are things they could be doing to keep us safe out there like keeping all those dumb people that you see not paying any attention when they are on their jet skis or in those seedoo little boats running around behind skiiers and wakeboarders that could possibly running over the skiier if they fall. not to mention the countless numbers of them that turn in front of you without looking first

Hey, give them a break! Safety is hard, this small stuff is easy! :)hand

Dale, I was sitting on the sandbar watching you guys come down river, no way was your buddy as close as 60', I would guess he was at least a 100 yards behind you. If you need a witness to fight your case let me know...

Comment:

I was thinking the same thing and would include some of the comments made by Margaritavile Express.

Here is what I observed going out for the Fourth of July weekend.

First and foremost, every CHP was out on the road writing tickets as fast as a ticket checker at Disneyland. Once you drove through the gauntlet to get to the river you find that you must check every little nit pick thing on the boat so as not to draw attention.

Secondly, you go out on the water and every Yuma, Imperial Valley, Fish and Game person related to law enforcement is looking to raise revenue for some slight infraction whether it is a foot over the rail or someone standing up for second to fix a towel flapping in the wind.

Third, once you depart a sandbar you must get back to your home while constantly on the lookout for the latest LEO trap---be it a moored boat in the middle of the narrows or anchored in Clear Lake looking for the slightest offense.

Keep in mind we were sharing our ez-up on the sandbar with our friends who happen to be a Lieutenant from a San Diego law enforcement community and a 27 year active duty detective. When they say it is getting ridiculous [Note:and they get to badge their way out of a stop] you know the common man is not going to be that lucky.

Then we get back to Hidden Shores and you have every BLM officer looking to bust people for having a open container in their golf cart. Yes! thats right while driving around on your golf cart in a private resort you cannot have an open container of anykind. I do not drink on the water or sandbar when I operate a boat--- but gimme a break I want to enjoy a beer when I get back to my casa--- but nope you can't even do that now. They are so bad I get nervous just walking over to my in laws for dinner with a beer in my hand and they live across the street from us.

It is bad enough going through the checklist and making sure everyone is safe without having to worry about busting out your checkbook for a big ticket or a class B misdeameanor. I usually do not resort to profanity but all I can say on this one is F THAT! Oh and don't tell me they make the water safe for my family---my family is safe because of the precautions I take with them and the level of responsibility I demonstrate everytime I go out on the water. [If you disagree please see prior sentence.]

These conclusions and observations all come on a day which commemorates freedom in our great country. I find the word freedom to be diluted when you take into account the facts above.

KAP

P.S. Note: FYI--- I was not stopped, contacted, or ticketed in any form or fashion but just venting some frustration on constantly being on in red alert mode and it is just not fun anymore.

Hey John...
Wow...I guess it's getting pretty crazy out there. I'm glad at this point that we decided to stay in town. We've been out a lot this summer, and I haven't really noticed much difference in the park. Based on your observations, are the BLM guys out more on the big weekends, or has it been pretty consistent? I can't believe my sober wife can't drive me around the park in the cart while I drink a beer. Seems to me they'd be better off hunting down the underage drinkers in the park and on the water. Has there been an increase in the park as far as incidents/accidents? Are you going out this weekend? We'll be out Saturday, then heading to Havasu to do some work on a house that we've been given for a week. Haven't been there in like 13 years and have no idea the best places to launch etc...
Have a good week.
Bill
