What do you think is the best timing chain setup ? Not a real big fan on the 9 keyway on the crank gear ..

Going in a BBC Blower motor ..

Are you looking for something with capabilities of advance/retard or just straight up? A double roller from Cloyes is a great set. They have three keyway, multiple keyway and adjustable sets.

Just straight up . Called Summit and they offered me Manley True DR . Don't know much about them . I have read some threads on S.A. Gears and some people said to stay away from them . All the Cloyes that I have found are mostly 9 keyways or Hex-adjust . How good are the Hex-adjust ? I am wanting to run one with both Billet gears ..

I like the hex adjust sets. You can degree the cam just by turning the hex adjust. Get the degree wheel to the proper @.050 setting and turn the hex adjust until the dial indicator reads .050. Tighten it down done deal.

Why don't you like the 9 keyway?

I had a problem with one SA Gear chain, probably won't use one again. One year of use in a properly maintained engine and the chain stood up by itself when the engine was pulled down for inspection.

Do not buy one of the cheaper Cloyes sets, I put one on a 427 Vette engine the the lack of quality was extremely apparent. I recently read about someone having an issue with a Hex Adjust deal, but who knows what the true story is there. I have never had an issue with a billet 9 key sprocket, so use quite a few of them.

To me there is not enough mass around the gear to make it easy to strip the keyway . IMO ... I wasn't going to buy a cheap Cloyes setup believe me . Put it like this a motor is only strongest to its weakest point .... I'd like to know what some of you would put in your motor .. I would like to put a Jesel Belt drive on it but right now I don't have the $1,100 for one right now ..

You'll shear the key itself loooong before you hurt the 9 key crank sprocket.
When you buy any Cloyes, Lunati, Crane,Comp, what ever, you have no idea what the chain will be with it. It can come from any of 3-4 suppliers, regardless what you pay for the set.

If you buy a Rollmaster, it WILL be an IWIS (JWIS) chain, with a Torrington bearing, and nitride treated gears. Far as I know, they don't sell BBC sets any other way.

Personally, I prefer not to have my cam sprocket have slotted holes and indexed by a piece of pot metal. If you want a indexable cam spocket, at least get one with a multi fastener vernier cam sprocket. There are horror stories on these boards using less than quality timing sets. Its NEVER pretty.
