I'm trying to assemble an engine for a friend and he has some new Childs & Albert aluminum connecting rods but of course he doesn't have the literature that came with them. By any chance does anybody here have a torque specifiaction for these or a bolt stretch specification, these are BBC with 7/16-20 bolts. It seems as though Childs & Albert are no longer in business.

That's a tough one. Can you ID the bolts? How much power and what RPM are you shooting for? If no one can come up with a spec, you might try calling ARP to see if they supplied the bolts, and if so, what the spec is. Otherwise, there's no guessing what it might be.

Probably has C&A on the bolt. They did that. I'll look in the shop and see if I can find an old spec sheet.

With out the specs on the bolt, you are guessing. C&A used two bolts in their alum connecting rods. You are going to need to I.D. the bolt. There is something on the head, and you need to post that.

Figured as much...could have been made by ARP or SPS, but I think would say SPS and C&A if theirs.

The vast majority of C&A rods used a 8740 bolt unless they were from their larger series rods. Alum rods just don't need a killer MP type bolt. Strongest bolt I have ever heard of being used in an alum rod was a ARP 2000, L19, or maybe a H-11

Here is what I have. I am assuming this is a BBC.

150 series rods...all...bolt head marking CA-3000-1 85 ft lbs or .007-.008 stretch.
That bolt is 1.850 long.

They also made a deep cycle rod...you could get it in BBC but mainly it was a Chrysler 426 thing. That rod came with a c-a 3000-5 bolt and was 2 inches long. 90 ft lbs (.0075-.0085). Doubt you have those.

Anyway...check the bolt number and the length.

Of course mine are different, CA-4000-1 so do you have any specifications on those?

I show a c a 4000 which is 1.800 long. 75 lbs .0065-.0070
I don't see a 4000-1

But it says those bolts used in the 50 and 100 series rods (small block).

That is the only bolt that is 1.800 long so maybe you can narrow down by that.

C-A 4000-1 7/16-20 x 1.850 long 75 foot lbs. No stretch number given. Do not use Moly Lube.

Or was this just a test to see who saves the oldest and most worthless information?

I just went out to the garage and took pictures to post and they were:

C & A 4000-1 7/16-20 x 1.845

They are good rods. I preferred BME because of his serations but have used both without problems.
