Im in the process of restorign my boat, getting it ready for a new paint and new interior.. IMPRAYING no new stringers ( it is a full stringer boat ) need to be added. So heres my pickle, its running 61MPH with two 16 gallon tanks nearly full, with two people in it and a full cooler :p. The BERK JG pump has a leak ( water spraying up about 4 foot when your going not to bad though.. ) its going to be rebuilt, droop snoot added and maybe a wedge ?.. hopping that will make a big difference.. I will take a straigh edge and try to clean up the bottom of the hull this winter just to make my self feel better and more than likely buy a better / performance loader. My goal is 80 MPH when its all said and done. Its a 427 with a 454 block?.. , when it comes down to it i know nothing about motors and i wondering if anyone could sugest reliable power so i have an idea what to tell my mechanici would like done or shoot down some of his ideas? I would much rather have a boat that runs 70-75 thats reliable than one that runs 80 and i cant depend on.. I was going to pull the motor and send it to a local that does engine work and see if we cant get my boat to 75+ :yes: wanted 500-550 hp.. dunno how possible that is with this motor or this budget..

Going to need more information before you can get any meaningful help.There are a lot of knowledgeable members on the forum but will need more to work with. What kind of hull is it? What mods have been made to the pump? Does, the pump have an inducer, divertor, any snoots, what impellor? As for the engine, what do you have for heads, crank, rods, pistons, cam, intake, carburetor? If you have casting numbers for the heads and block, it will help to determine what they are. 500-550 Hp is relativley easy to get out of BBC and still use many stock parts. Depending on your hull, 70Mph is within reach with that amount of power maybe a little more. In any case, before anyone can help you with where you want to go, they have to know where you at equipment wise first. Good luck with the restoration.

3999289 is the block casting, I was unable to find and head casting #'s. The pump Is stock except for a place diverter.

HID #CFV 181151276 The hull is a 18' continental fiber glass "History of that MIC. Shows
"WAS CONTINENTAL FGL,3162 E LA PALMA AV,ANAHEIM,CA; OOB 8/79. " Since the HIN shows it to be a 76, it looks like it was manufactured by "Continental Fiberglass" who went out of business in 79. "

As for the motor, it's a shot in the dark. The guy I bought it from didn't know his a$$ from his head.. So no telling does have a holly 850 dp and my mechanic said it " sounded " like it had a larger cam and some valve work? That above my head though. Guess the only way to know what's inside is to go inside?

Last 3 # 289 its a 454 block.. not sure of that hull desing though..pix would be great..My daughters boat is a GT, 454 .30 over, flat tappit hdr. cam. mild, msd #6 bath-tub oval port heads roller rockers 10.25 com.air-gap int. 850 holley...gasket match on int.+ heads,berkley R pump..GTH old stuff..no inducer and it runs high 70's

Does the hull and fullstringer make much difference? I assume the hull just weight and aerodynamics? and stringers for more horse power / smoother ride?

Head casting number

Pull a valve cover- the head casting number will be cast into the head under the rocker arms. Without pulling the valve cover you may could judge what the intake port is- Rectangular or Oval from the part number of the intake that is on it- but that would be a guess. Easy enough to pull a valve cover and see. Then you can look up the casting # and know what you have.

Man that thing looks like an early Eliminator Bubble deck lol. Very similar lines. I can't tell you how many times I have had people claim they had a 427. I think there is an old school of thought that this was THE motor to have. If your block is 454 why would anyone go down in size??? Anyway, looks good. Def pull V.cover and get casting #. Knowing your heads will give you a ton of info about where and how to add power. You will have to make guess at compression and bore etc unless you pull a head and get out the mic. I'll have to get some help with doing that, I have no idea how to even begin to do that :duh: Luckly i have that local that will help me.. just have to pay him a bit and buy the beer..

I was actually told it was a Eliminator bubble deck.. and bought it with that understanding ( title said "Eliminato"). Then when i got to look i noticed the only difference is the rear of the boat the eliminator has a slowly decending slope, where mine has the lip.. But either way its mine now and i got a good deal on it so im happy. I was told it had a 454 in it also ( rather have 454 than 427 im def not old school only 21 :buddies:). Then i took it to my mechanic to have the carb looked at and when i came back he told me it was a 427 ( said somehtign about the balancer? one being internal other external?.. )


I think its awesome! Will do what i want it to do.. be a hotrod on the water, and occasionly smoke some week waking skeeter :yes:
Irratates me its not an eliminator though.. and the engine is not what i was told.
