I'm just wondering how many have been layed off, at least once, in the last 2 years. It appears the # is around 10 percent nationally.

"Working harder than ever". My company laid off nearly 10% of the workforce and re-negotiated their contract with our main client which means that now we are having to cover the work of the people that we laid off plus work an extra hour per day (as per new contract) but I just feel so luck that I still have a job.

I really feel for you guys that have been laid off or lost their business due to this economy and I just hope that you all find work SOON!!!

I've been a superintendent on large commercial projects for 27yrs never missed a day. Been out of work since February 20th. (about to loose my f'n mind) Five months and my first interview will be tomorrow. Things are looking better though, I will actually be talking to three companies this week. Only down side is I will have to work out of town if I accept any of these positions. But definetly looking forward to getting back to work. :)devil

Not exactly "unemployed", but my work load is less than 50% of what it was 3 months ago, and my contract rate is down about 45%.

Roughly 70% reduction in revenue stream on average over last 3 months.
Am still making the bills (barely), but forget any trips or extras.
And I am one of the lucky ones.

Own an automotive repair facility in Mich. Working harder than ever with 2/3 less staff. The trouble around here is everybody still has the 'Factory mentality' . The all do S#$TT work and not enough of it. To easy to collect from the government. The last two mechanics I hired had enough school and certificates to wallpaper my living room and they were complete failures, cost me a lot of money to regroup and negociate and repair the damage. There is a lot of responsibility and liability riding on everything I do, the work is hard and you have to be fast and good. There has been 2 Midas shops and 2 Tuffy muffler shops close in the last 2 years around here and my personal opinion is that NOBODY around here wants to work anyway ......................

Still employed but each day is stressful. Company is teetering and the rumor mill is talking BK They've cut my pay, pension, eliminated company 401K match, took the co cars from those that had them and recently renegotiated the labor contract for our employees. Howver, we seem to be getting more business each week recently so hopefully we can hang on through this economy. 24 years would be a lot to give up.

Business is off 20-30% in this area. Projects are on hold and no one wants to take chances until this idiotic admininstration figures out what the hell they are doing.

Companies, large and small are shuddering at what the Cap & Trade and "Healthcare for the world" is going to do to the business climate. I personally do not think Chairman O really cares what the damage is, as all he wants is more control of everything possible.

If we could start building some necessary power plants or release favorably located drilling leases we could begin to end the downturn, but we are saddled with a government full of idiots and spineless cowards who can't make the right decisions or are all out selfcentered idiots bent on pipedreams of Socilist Utopia.

If we stay on the current path it can only get worse......

Your comment about nobody wants to work around here is so true that I almost choked when I read it. You must of been reading my mind. I have been retired for 10 years and we moved to Michigan 9 years ago and I can't believe how lazy most of the people are here. It comes from the Unions giving them everything under the sun. Once you get it free you just don't want to work for it again.

This State is in for a rude awakening in the next few years, once the Oboma Motor Company fails again and these peoples unemployment runs out...

I got cut to 32 hours a week instead of 40.

Looking for a new job in a new field. Finally got my BA in Finance.

I run a computer server sales business, but I need to move on now.
