I have a few questions if someone could help. I just picked up my first flatty, Im told its a 62 laveycraft. It was givin to me by a good freind who just didnt have the time or ambition anymore. It doesnt seem to be in bad shape, just needs a little elbow grease and a few $$. My question is on the v-drive. Ive never seen one like it before, I was told the gears are 27 and he gave me a set of 18 also. I was told I should change them out, that these were to high. If so is this something I can do, or should it go to someone who know's this unit?. Any help would be appriciated. Thank's again Jerry:D

Welcome to the insanity! Pictures will help with your questions. Post pix of the boat, driveline (closeups of the v-drive box), engine specs, prop specs. All of this info will help you get answers.

leave the 27ns in it untill you take it for a run , when you get used to it if you feel you need more punch then think about the 18teens or put sum more power into the motor to make the 27ns work better:)devil:)devil

Laveycraft

I had a 1963 Laveycraft that I pounded the stuffings out of. It was a real fun boat. The vdrive it had in it was a Thoroghbred, and I used to get parts for it from Playa Tool and Marine at 2138 S. Lyon, Santa Ana, (714) 979-1681 Keep in mind, that was between 1975-1985, so no clue if they are still around. The gears are straight cut, and noisey than hell-I had to wear ear plugs to drive the boat. Good luck!!:D

Thank's for the I.D. ive never seen one like it. The last owner used to race the boat before it was parked. Being that this is my first flatty, should I chang the 27 gears for the 18n's he gave me. Is this something I could do myself ?. Is there somewhere I could get a book on this model ?.

Thank's for the diagram, this will help. The previous owner ran a 440 mopar with nitrous. The engine is at the machine shop now, shoud be around the 450-500hp range. I'll think about more, when I learn how to drive this on. The prop, its a brass, the only markings I can make out are D & J on the side. the stamp on the collar is worn down and cant make it out.
