Like i've said, looking to squeeze every bit i can out of this motor. Been looking at vac pumps. I'm not running low tension rings or gapless, they are the standard rings that SRP gives you. How much vac should i be drawing? Who makes a good kit, but one thats decient priced? I dont have a ton of room infront of the motor right now so it needs to be somewhat compact :)

Shawn,

Try a search on Vac Pumps there should be at least two on here I can think of. The info you're looking for might be in one of them.

You should have more hp left in the motor.
I'd spend $ there vs vacuum pump at this stage.
Shaun I agree with Scott above, I don't feel bang for the buck a vac pump is going to do anything for you. I'd try those carbs that GN7 has offered and do some tuning using fuel and spark to optimize power.

I think with the $800+ you'd spend on a vacume pump and all its nessasary parts.. It wouldnt be worth the VERY small power gain you would recieve from it being your motor was not set up for this idea in the 1st place. I think you'd be happier with a 150 shot for the money.

Agreed...get a contemporary intake and some new carbs and get that tuned. Maybe the ignition upgrade to a trigger. That'll keep you busy for a while.:D

shaun, the pump is worth 15-20 hp at elevated R's and a low enuff deperession (vac). Problem with all of this is "low enuff means somewhere below 12" and elevated means close to or over 7000. The real HP is more like 19-20", and that is enough to need casidium coated pin, and spring spray bars for extended running. It becomes a can of worms you don't need to into right now. stick with your game plan for now, and maximize that. Then maybe some spray. If you have money burning a hole in your wallet, save for some heads.

haha, not really money burning a hole in my pocket. Just things i have though about in the past and figure i should probably do before dyno if i'm going to do them. Heads i think is a next build thing?, cam from chris was designed with this head's info.

Like it was said, stick to your game. New intake, carbs, ignition and tune that. That should be just alittle over the 800 and on my deal with a standard ring pack with a hellfire top ring, it was good for 30 HP pulling 12" at 6200. Spend the money elsewhere. If you come across a good used set of heads, im sure Chris would not hesitate to do another cam for you.

Shaun, what oil pan are you running?
The thing about a vac pump is that AFAIK, you won't need to re-tune your engine if you add one later. My guess is it's worth 15-20hp on an engine w/ standard rings but it's all speculative. The intake Ray is sending you will be down on power over an Edelbrock Vic TR, but it's a step up from what you have. For a while, that Weiand Super Pro ram was real popular. Unfortunately they quit making it.

Running a Dooley 14 quart pan with a case of VR1 racing oil (5-30)

Actually i'm not sure what intake he's sending me, is it the weiand super pro? If what he's giving me works well and feels/runs stronger i probably will go with the edelbrock vic tr.

Before you buy a vac pump, invest in a good kick out pan. There's power to be had there. Stef's or Dan Olson.

who the hell is RAY. Yes it is a Wieand Pro Ram and your right, they don't make them any more. Did not know that. SC is right on with the pan, the more you are able to control the oil, the less you need the pump, all though it still helps. I'd start there for sure, plus your bearings will love you for it.

Well Shaun, looks like we've just about rebuilt your engine and spent all your money for you. We're good at that...if nothing else.:D

lol, i was thinking that when he posted that, pretty sure your name is bob? I try to remember these things, but i'm the only one who uses his real name as a Screen Name :p

Shaun,
If you want a significant power increase I would put some inches underneath those 990 heads.
Next build, next build!! :)
