had the paris rhone type alternator rebuild two years ago,and had nothing but problems ever since.the volt gauge reads 10 plus volts idleing and just under 12 at 2 grand.had the boat tested at a electrical shop and the alternator was putting out
13.8 at the alternator.and 13.8 at the battery.so is the volt gauge bad?boat is setup with duel brand new group 27 batterys with a perko selector.the boat is setup with two amps for the sound system and playing it while idleing really brings the volt gauge down below 10 volts on the gauge.is there a upgraded alternator that can be installed to replace the PARIS RHONE alternator without rewireing the complete chargeing setup.i have been told to stay away from the ONE WIRE alternator setups as they need to be reved up to start chargeing and dont charge good idleing for long periods.i dont want to cut up the stock wireing.engine is a 350 chevy with a 280 power trim outdrive
thanks don

Volt guages show volts at the dash panel, not at the battery. Many boats have a bunch of voltage drop at the guage panel...especially with all the accessories people usually add up there.

Check voltage at the battery if your concerned with your alt's output.

Not sure on a good alt upgrade for your style....check out dbelectrical.com
