As I am (im)patiently waitting on the machine shop to finish up with the short block, I thought I might pass the time on the Forum Dyno. Just see what you guys thing about the parts I have been able to scrounge together and any ideas on what it will be able to make. Here goes the list:

Merlin tall deck BBC, 4.60 bore (zero decked)
Forged steel Scat crank, 4.50 stroke
Scat 6.8 H-beam rods
Dart 345's, mild hand porting, polished chambers and exhaust
(chambers measure 122cc, pistons 39cc, head gaskets 4.630 bore at .040 thickness)
Weiand Team G intake
Comp aluminum 1.7 rockers and stud girdles
MSD Pro Billet distributor and 6AL
Holley Dominator 1250
Lunati Solid Roller (see cam card below)

All of this running on VP C-14 fuel. When I get more money, I plan on upgrading the cam, intake, ignition box and carb... but the money is running thin and race season is just around the corner. Let me know what you guys think.

Mike

If it makes 850 hp, I would be happy. As of right now, I am less than $6000 in to this motor. Almost all the parts are used, just picking up deals as I can find them.

Put a Tunnel Ram on it and you'll be north of 900

 Bet I could pick up 50hp if I put a tunnel ram on my Honda.

The reason I want to try to stay with a single carb is to make it easier to tune at the track and hopefully make it more consistent. I am shooting for the 9 second class and think I may have to back it up to stay in class. That being said, if I am running 9.20's... I may be looking for a second carb. :hmmm:

It works but I do not like spinning a 41/2 stroke that high. Get good light pistons and rods. But I know nothing. Just ask anyone.

How high? Did somebody mention RPM. These threads are so hard to follow.
Cam sheet says "3800 - 7400". I have a feeling that due to the heads it will run out of breath around 7000. Either way, I should have to put it on the rev-limiter to keep it in class. I have been using the chip to get me with in a tenth and dialing a degree or two of timing to get it on the number.

I was just going by the cam card's numbers and 7400 would be high without a real good oil pan or external oil system for a 4.50 stroke! JMO!

I ordered the pan from Armando and it should be shipping out tomorrow. As soon as I can come up with the cash, I will be running a 3 quart oil accumulator as well.

Yep that was me! Kind of hard to miss that tail-dragger that looks like it was attacked by a 10 year old with a box of crayons.

I have been running the 12's for the past 3 years and really trying to step up. We are removing the flat-bottom style rudder and replacing it with a real out-board rudder. Also changing out the strut and moving it back where it should be for a hydro.

Planning on making the First race in June and then going strait to Wheatland. If all goes well, I won't be terrorizing the 12's no more.

The cam card ALSO says 396-454 not a 598. I would be surprised if that cam could carry a 454 to 7400 let alone a 598. You run out of cam long before you run out of port.

Anyone ever notice that Lunati cam cards look like "cam cards for dummies"? Is the "lift at valve" net or gross, and how do you know? What is the lobe lift!!!!!!!

Just looked at the cam card Bob. I think a different cam at lower rpm would be better. Also I think if you build it right he does not need that much carb.

I understand what you are saying GN, and I have a couple of other cams that I might be able to get my hands on in the 800 lift range. Just don't have the cam cards on them. So I was thinking to start small and swap cams if need be.

What kind of cam would you recommend? What should I be looking for?

Defiantly stop by in the pits. The worst thing that can happen is that we will drink beer and tell big lies. Best of luck to ya this year and if you have any questions about how things run at the KDBA, let me know. If I don't know, I will put you in touch with who does.
