Had my Whipple 8.3 with a 8mm cog shred all the teeth off of the belt a Jason 1600.

I can't believe it the belt looked like it was shaved on the inside?

I managed to loosen the tensioners and tighten the whole belt up so the motor would turn over and ran the boat at idle back to the launch ramp.

ANYONE HAVE A SAME OR SIMILAR EXPERIENCE?????

KAP

P.S. My engine compartment is a friggen mess... rubber everywhere no damage to anything else but will probably take about 5 hours to clean up and get it all out of the bilge.

KAP,

I believe Bill Pyburn was having the same issue.......although I'm not 100% positive. I cant get you his number if you like.

Erik

I have HEARD through the grapevine that the 8.3 rotors are made from two different metals. When the rotors heat up, they expand at different rates and can actually stall for a second. I'm not sure how true that is, but I'm sure Dustin will be along shortly to talk down to me and rip me apart......carry on! :D

I checked the tensioners and they seem fine and they all spin freely the far one on the port side is a little wobbly but that is on the smooth side of the belt

The whole reason I run a cogged 8mm belt is to prevent slipping. The previous ribbed version of the drive belt had too much slip.

Took the belt off [or what was left of it] and turned the supercharger by hand with no noises or anything suspect. Second the oil in the blower comes up to level when you turn the rotors clockwise.

I mean all the teeth on the belt are just gone shaved I will take a photo of it and post it.

It made a F'n mess in my engine compartment as I pride myself on keeping that area spotless. Honestly,. I do not even know where to begin cleaning friggen disaster:mad:.

Tomorrow I will call Mr. Whipplecharged and ask him about the problem. I wanted to hear from others if they had the same experience. Then again I only know a handful of people running the 8.3 Whipple.

Yeah I heard about Pyburn shredding belts would love to talk with him to see if he has it figured out.

OSO is probably a better forum for a response.

Thanks Erik always appreciate your input.

I'm with you on keeping the engine compartment clean. Last year one of my tranny cooler lines came loose and sprayed that red fluid EVERYWHERE. Took me all day at home to clean it.

I think belt dust and material might even be worse than that!

If you need Bills number let me know.
