I'm puzzled how water got in my oil??? The motor never had water in it and when i drained the oil alot of water came out and the milkshake had white
clumps in it.. what are the white clumps???

Your not givin us much 2 work with here. Do you have a water pres. gauge on your system? Are ya runnin logs..jacketed header...injected headers? Your cam is how agressive? I have had alot of bassett t issues this year...sliver of silly cone stuck it open....rusted a spring through....bought a new spring and gave it a lil stretch before putting it in...broke 1st trip. How bout oil temp??

You say the motor never had water in it. Correct? Then someone put it in there.

Seriously though... headers or thru hulls ,just how much h20 , whats the valve train area look like are there any other problems or symtoms How cold is your engine temp and whats the water temps been your way ?

Motor never had water in it? As in its a fresh motor or it never leaked before that you knew of? How long has it been sitting?

The motor is fresh and has never been ran. its been in my boat outside under a tarp for 5 years.... Im ashamed to admit to that but its true:bangmyhead:
I found this because i prime the motor every once in a while to try to keep thing good and when i primed it last water was shooting out of the push rod so i stopped and drained the oil and thats what came out along with the milk shake and it seemed to be a lot of water.

I found this because i prime the motor every once in a while to try to keep thing good and when i primed it last water was shooting out of the push rod so i stopped and drained the oil and thats what came out along with the milk shake and it seemed to be a lot of water.
Despite the fact that it hasn't been operated with circulaing water ,moisture or serious condensation has made its to the crankcase , look down the carb or intake for rust or moisture stains if possible try to look thru the intake at the intake valves to see if water has "puddled" there as well (causing rust on intake valves and seats ) sounds like the tarp leaked or "sweated" Tom

I think it could be a serious case of sweating. The tarp is in good shape. I didnt see any puddling, i have rags stuffed in place of the carb.
Im concerned about what kind of damage may have happened to the main bearings and other parts. What would be the best thing to do next??

Pull it and send it to me. I'll let you know if it's good in a couple months.

through transom or ove trasom exh.? you could be getting water in through the exh. if it isnt covered properly.

Hmmmmm...

Something smells fishy here.... There has to be something that hasn't been said. Motors do not produce that much water just "sitting" under a waterproof tarp... Since he has said there were rags stuffed in the intake, I'm betting that is the source of the water and there is a bunch of rust in other places.... Be sure to check the oil pump relief for rust.....

Depending on how deep you want to go, I'd pull the plugs spray some Sea foam or Marvel Mystery oil in each cylinder and fog some in/down the intake , drain and flush the oil system with fresh oil (NO diesel) and then do the "tests" Oil pressure , compression and leak down , if alls good I'd consider rockin' it ... considering where you live, I'd say that just the humidity can cause water in the pan, if you don't use something for that long then the motor will sit with the same valves open all the time thus causing water to build and condense and eventually leak into the pan just priming the oil is not enough you need to build enough heat to evaporate the water and you need to do it often. I would pull the engine and have it gone through and just take it out and run it a couple times a year and you wont have this problem ever again.

You would be surprised how moisture can get into a motor. And in my case, I STILL can't figure it out. Over winter parked, PNW, my I/O never had a problem, covered, but under a canopy too. My 20 footer OB, just covered never a problem.

My Flatbottom Merc stack? After the first year parked after a crank up rebuild, sounded like it was wanting to fire ever cylinder at once. Backfire, etc. I pulled the distributor cap, which is upside down on the Merc, and had a shot glass at least of water in it! The motor was well covered, then the tarp, but over grass covered ground. The only thing I can come up with is weather heat/cooling cycles, heck I still don't know. Now I pull the cap off before stowing, and leave the wrap off. Need air circulation. And on inboards, many wrenches say to NOT cover the carb, pipes, but I'm on the fence on that.

In your case, well, ya know any water in the oil, means moisture on internal block parts, and thats not a good thing. On the clumping, I wouldn't worry that, probably microbial "stuff", growing. Water, oil, air, just sitting, gonna grow something probably in 5 years.

How much extra "oil" was on the dipstick, or how much drained out of the engine? Extra quart or two?

Priming the engine doesn't do anything about putting oil on the cylinder walls. If you have enough water to make that mess, I think you probably have to plan on pulling the engine. Any rust built up in the engine is not going to do good things for it.

I guess first pull the valve covers,, and maybe the intake to look for signs of rust, but for all the more work it takes to pull an engine out of a boat, I would do it for insurance against hurting your investment.

I'm a mechanic for the water district here in so cal and in my experience with our equipment that sits for long periods of time, even in a dry climate we still get water in our gearboxes even with the descant filters on them, if the engine sat in the same position for five years you probably have a considerable amount of corrosion going on internally but there is a chance that priming the engine might have coated the rotating parts and valve train enough to keep it to a minimum. I would definitely flush and change the oil if your going to use it soon, or pickle the engine if you store it.
