Does any one know any thing about this style wear ring.
Tom this is exaxtly like the Wear ring that came out of My pump except the plastic ring is black.

verify the accurate measurement of the inside diameter of the suction housing. older dominators were different. have run across berkeleys that have been machined out or spun the wear ring ring expanding the housing which should be obvious. pic and accurate measurement will determine.

Well there is no evidence of the ring turning in the bore , no scores or scratches and the original coating color is still undamaged.

The reason for the post is that with a standard stainless wear ring, with a shoulder lip , I cannot get the tight .025- .030 clearance that is recomended and I am thinking that either I will have to have a shouldered wear ring or the impeller was once machined shorter which I can see no evidence of.

This is the wear ring that came out and has a shoulder and with that wear ring there was a tight clearance,may be to tight as there were no shims between the impy and the shaft, that can be seen in the second picture.





Here is the clearance that i get with the new wear ring. As You can see the nose cone of the imy is but tight to the shoulder of the punp shaft and the clearance is a heavy 1/8".





After searching I found this thread that Delmonte had started and My issue is the exact same as his was to the letter.http://www.performanceboats.com/jet-boats/32851-impeller-install-issue.html

I would like to verrify that the end of the impeller has not been machined off. Does any one know what the length or depth of the skirt should be?

It appears as though you are trying to install a Dominator wear ring of the later generation pump with a 1" wear ring surface on the impeller in place of the old style wear ring with a 3/4" wear ring surface.

Do as Johnnyray said and measure the outside diameters of the two wear rings. This will help us help you. The older generation impellers had a wear ring surface of approximately 3/4". The later generation pump impellers have a wear ring surface of about 1"., The two rings are NOT interchangable.

Another thing that really muddies up the water is that Dominator at one time made a wear ring of the newer outside diameter that made the older style impellers fit in the new pumps. They also made a wear ring for the old pumps that would allow you to use the newer impellers in the older pumps.

This makes a total of 4 wear rings that look basically alike, but they do not all interchange.

Ok the out side diameter of the old wear ring is ,best i can tell 7.758 and there is no liner just hard shouldered plastic ring with a brass inner ring( as in picture). The outside diamiter of the new stainless ring is 7.594 plus there is a linner that is .082 thick x2 so 7.594 + .082 + .082= 7.758 the same as the old ring. Now I could be off a couple thousandths in my measuring but to me they are both pretty close. actually the new ring fits tighter with the linner than the old one does. here is a pic of the new ring.

great pics and good measurements. i believe your difference in clearances are coming from the thickness of the "lip" of your wear ring, some of the delrin liners were .250 think at the lip. take a depth measurement of the different wear rings from the height to the inside base of the lip and you will see the difference. the cure is to use the same type wear ring that you had, or cut the nose of the impeller to draw it closer or cut the shaft to let the impellor slide deeper into the wear ring.

Yep I agree...Dominator...I just replaced mine and it was just like that. Tom at Jet Boat Performance helped me out, big time!

Yes that is what I am saying, I think I need a shouldered wear ring( one with a thicker lip).
Do the shouldered wear rings come with different size shoulders( lips)?
I know I have three different options here, but at this time I really do not want to machine any parts and move the impeller back away from the bowl.
Duane, does the ultimate wear ring have a thick shoulder like My old ring? Maybe this would be a good opportunity to try one , since I have to buy a new wear ring any how.
Look. At the link that I provided in post#6 to delmontes thread, this issue has been discussed before. My issue is exactly the same....Hal

yes the wear rings are available in different lip thickness, i am not sure what the measurement is on duane"s ultimate w/r , check with him he will know, if he does not have the proper one i have a lot of the originals in various thickness, let me know. i am sure duane can fit you up.

Yes, we make the Ultimate Wear Ring in both thicknesses in the lip area. The thicker lipped one is not as common as it used to be, so we may not have every undersize. But, give me a ring and I think we can fix you up.

Great big thanks to JetBoat Performance and HTP and all that helped Me out.

Big thanks to Tom and Duane for putting up with Me calling and bugging You Guys and as usual for the help from the folks here on the boards.
Well i got My clearance issues worked out. From best we can figure the impeller, has at some time been cut down, on either the hub or the end of the wear ring skirt. Never the less, After talking with Duane He had an ultimate wear ring with a thick shoulder like the old one that was removed.
I recieved the wear ring Yesterday and after installing it I fit the impeller and without any shim and the clearance was .010",which made Me happy as hell! I will use .015" shims for a .025" clearance. Hopefully problem solved and will allow Me to get the boat wet finnaly, untill I can dish out for a Stainless impeller,which is what I really need. Thanks again every one.......Hal
