We run a 4 channel digital spray timer. 2 channels control 2 retard timing maps, but we run a xdi2 ignition. 3rd controls the place diverter, 4th auxiliary pop off control. xdi-2 can be had for around 1700 wired and floating. The kit is around 1500, I think the timer was 400ish
Alot of people run the msd grid. I gave up on msd 10 years ago.
msd digital 7 has a programmable launch controller, which is basically a programmable rev limiter. msd hasn't manufactured the standalone programmable launch controller for several years now. that one (which Richard is referring to) was very good. the first programmable launch controller was the banderlog, but that hasn't been around for a very long time. there were problems with that one. before the programmable deals, people ran 2-steps using msd chips and a timer. you can still piece together a 2 step, but you'd have to figure out what parts you wanted to use.
