I bought a 440 Dodge from a PB member quite a few months ago. He told me it was a really hot engine that was tired and needed to be rebuilt. I used the 440 in a Cole TR2 I had bought. The 440 was a dog out of the hole but it got fun higher in the RPM's. I couldn't get it to idle for sh!t. Anyway, the cam (solid flat tappet) went to a cam guy to see what the cam's specs were and it had a 102 lobe center, 280* duration at .050", and .580"/.600" lift at the valves. The guy said it was a old dragster cam and that he hadn't seen anything like that in quite some time. I got a kick out of the news and thought maybe someone else would too. No wonder why it was so sleepy out of the hole. :)hand

Is that an old Blower cam ?

102 lobe centers! No wonder it didn't like to idle...
I wonder what the numbers are on the "old school" way of measuring over-lap by degree's ? It's going to be a big number.

My engine builder/friend said it was probably a drag car with a 4 speed. I then noticed it has a pilot bushing in the crank. Heads have small combustion chambers, I think he said around 70cc, and they only have 4 bolt holes for the valve covers which is weird for a 440. Small dome pistons and those heads probably around 12.5:1 compression. It had a Weiand (say Wei-and :D ) intake but who knows if that's always been on it or not.

The v-drive oil pan is trick. The pick up for the oil pump is bolted to the bottom of the pan and a short piece of heater hose connects the oil pickup to the oil pump. hil:)

Those are some old heads you have there. The 4 bolt valve covers are the earliest of the big block heads dating 1958 through 1963. That is also pre cast in rocker shaft stands, you will have the aluminum blocks. Casting # 2402286 is the 1962 413 Max Wedge, # 2463209 is the 63 426 Max Wedge. Any other number would be a standard 361, 383, or 413 head. What are you going to use for a cam now? I have a nice old Racer Brown mushroom lifter cam that has break in and maybe 2 hours on it, like new. I'd have to pull the cam card, all I can remember is it has 620 lift. Really nice cam ran it in an old Mr.Ed hydro. Have new matching valvesprings as well. I'm guessing you are probably past that stage, but if not and you are interesed I'll make you a great deal, F1~;)

I'm not sure which heads I have because they're at the machine shop now. There's a pair of max wedge cylinder heads on eBay where the seller is asking about $2,500 for the pair. Factory1 I appreciate the info you posted, thanks. I already have the replacement cam.

If someone was restoring a factory ultralight car and needed the heads for a resto I could see the price, but in todays day and age you can do alot better than that at about half that price or less. Edelbrock, 440 Source, Indy. Good luck with your project, let us know how it turns out, F1~:)

I don't think it really mattered much back then. Nothing that inexpensive, high octane fuel and high compression couldn't solve.;)

Sure sounds like it (a gas blower) ..... with the lifts, I'd say for a smaller blower like 6-71 or 8-71.
Really?? The blower cams of today have 112+ lobe centers. What was the thinking back in the day with such tight ones?

I was thinking a blower cam by the lift profile . On the lobe center . My understanding is the tighter the center you push power band up ??? I know we have one or more cam grinders on the board maybe they jump in , Then again , Maybe this an old circle track grind ??
