I live in San Diego, so our winters arent to frigid...but we do get a decent amount of rain. I was wondering what you experianced people do as far as capping off the exhust tips to keep moisture out of the exhaust system, which of course leads right into the motor. Is this a good idea or would blocking off the exhaust just trap moisture in thats going to condensate anyway... thoughts?

Are you talking OT headers or Logs?

For Logs I have never blocked them off and never noticed any issues. Logs have the riser to prvent water from running back to the engine and are generally pitched down from the engine.

I don't have OT headers but would think it would be best to plug them up to prevent rain from getting driven in since they exit well above the heads. I believe they have weep holes near the head so any condensation should drip out.

I drain the block by pulling the two drain plugs and flush all the sand out...generally get about a big gulp cup full out. I then fill with distilled water and clear vinegar. Logs get washed out as well...

i would shove some towel material in the pipes so mosture will escape if needed but will keep the cold air mosture from going in. can you start the motor & run wd 40 down the carb so your valves & cyl. get coated? if its outside i have ran anti freeze though the water system with an electric pump after the wd-40 ., i also have sprayed the alum. & chrome with wd-40 & put towls on the metal to keep condensation off the metal to keep it from coroding. if outside, the boat covers breathe so when the water finds a low spot it will seep through the cover & fill the boat up with water,even with a wooden beam across the top to keep the tent effect. ask me how i know :rolleyes:. at least my walmart boat cover did.

Anti freeze could get spilled on ground like once fired up...vinegar is safer for our climate. I use two covers, first one is a good breathable then a grey heavy duty reflective on top. This allows your boat to breath by keeping the elements from each other. I pull all plugs and give a squirt or mystery in each cylinder as well run it through carb.

some one gave me a cover for a Cobalt 21' it covers the flattie real nice the scoop and headers take up the slack. I use RV tank antifreeze it's biodegradable.

OK some good info.

Boat sits outside, with a new "waterproof" cover on it and then a big tarp on top of that. it is also a sealed hatch design, so there is a big engine cover over the motor anyways. No water can get inside or on it anywhere. Last winter I did absolutely nothing to it and it fired right up in april and ran great. But i still want to be on the safe side. Unfortunately i cant start it up now, as the harmonic balancer is off the crank but mainly, the driveshaft is blown up and I cannot remove it until I remove the jet drive and bellhousing. Not going to have the $$$ to fix it till tax return time in February.

I'll spray some WD down the throttle body and inside the plug holes, and shove some rags up the exhaust tips. Thanks!

I put a jack stand under the front of my trailer to keep it nose high so any water that goes through the cover will drain out the bilge drain. I've got plans to pull my motor this winter to fix a small oil leak and probably replace my oil pan with the Dooley collecting dust on the shelf. I'm hoping to swap intakes while I have it out and maybe even sneak a bigger cam if I can. I drained both tanks and the carb. I know everyone says to leave tanks full, but I have to do some work on them over the winter (replace senders and pass. pick up). I really wanted to do a rail kit on it too, but still waiting for an estimate before I know if I'll be able to.
