Have 2 pair of thru bolt Harman Marine BBF...One set is polished with new gaskets.

460 Harman Marine Thru Bolt Jet Boat Exhaust Logs and Snails | eBay
This is the other set ready for refurb and will give you a new set of log to snail gaskets. These need the black paint removed and a good polish to get em to look like the other set. I buy them when I find em to refurb and resell. They are the best style log for the BBF. The bolt goes thru the log to ensure a proper mount and allows you to run gaskets also the water runs up around each port to ensure proper cooling for no warping aroung ports. The set on ebay are off my motor and have the step down on the snail removed and ported for better flow.

Glenwood logs $100

I have a set of Glenwoods that are in pretty good shape. No warping on the flanges and mounting areas are clean, just look like they need some polishing. Looking for $100, PM me if interested

I dont think that anything but the ones I posetd will fit. These Carlson CVX-20's have about 2-3" (as you can see in the motor pic) between those manifolds and the side of the engine bay. Can anyone measure the distance that the flange style comes off of the head (in a horizontal plane) on the Hardin style? Thanks

Krusn: I would not want the snail ported, as my exhaust has enough issues getting water in it as it is. It sits about 4" under water unless I'm on plane. The black ones look to be in worse shape than my current ones. I'm curious how you test the water jackets to be sure they aren't getting thin, and/or leaking internally.

They appear to be cast, don't really have any room to get inside them and are so full of carbon that Tig welding them up is going to be next to impossible.

The ported area is just on the lip that was removed to make them have a 3 1/2 instead of 3. Put the log in a barrow full of water block off one fitting and attach a air line to the other....simple leak check. If the snail is already off I have a piece of aluminum with the 4 stud holes drilled out and put that on with silicone an do the test. I would do a test like this on yours before buying anything. Do you have flappers on your tips?

I have always tested using water, fed off of a 20 lb regulator, to be sure not to over pressure and rupture them. But to each his own. As far as 3 and 3 1/2; you are refering to the size of the snail outlet I'm ASSuming? So you just basically bored it?

I have flappers, lmao. I can't source them anywhere so we fab our own. They usually get warped after a few hard passes, so we flip them every week or so (we are on the water 5 days a week in summer).

The harman marine snails come with a step down. Gives you a 3 or 3 1/2. I cut off the 3 and port the inside lip and its not much. I only match whats behind it.

this is a very common practice, better flow, more power !

I guess my current ones were already cut down when I bought the boat. The exhaust tips are the smallest part in my setup. Hope to replace them before spring.

Bump

It looks like the Glenwood's, Hardin's and similar style (riser and flange) logs are around 6.5" from the head to the furthest point on the side. The old school "Harman Marine" ones I currently run are 5"-5.25".

This would put the exhaust lower and further outward. Its real close now and unless I'm going to gain some performance from the newer style, I think I'd rather go with whats currently on it. I already have hell keeping exhaust manifold gaskets in it, and I hear its even harder or impossible to do with the flange/riser style.

Anybody else got a set of the manifolds in the first post? Links to any for sale?

Opinions on the differences between the two types?
