make sure the antenna faces up when mounted under the dash. Use heavy duty velco to hold it in place. cutting the cable asks for trouble, the recievers are sensitive to the db loss in the coax, and are tuned for a specific length. Many composite aircraft use this mounting technic with out issue. Carbon fiber will not pass a radio signal, so don't try to mount it under this material, fiberglass and wood are fine.
