I watch France 24 every day, just to get up to date news about Europe in general. They had a "socialist professor" giving facts about France's tax income. He said 41% of the population pay income tax. 7% of that number pay the most income tax. The rest of tax income is from sales and other use taxes. He did not mention business's tax liability. ( I do not know how accurate this info is and have not tried to verify with another source).
The point is, the increase of fuel tax to fund global warming, was going to increase fuel cost to approximately $7.00 a gal.
Now, this is chump change for the rich, but most of the population still drive cars and trucks powered by gasoline, not electric powered.
In addition, most of France use nuclear powerplants for electricity. They want to remove all nuclear plants starting in 2022. Replacing natural gas as the power source.
Some EU nations are realizing that some of the rules of the EU parliament are not in their best interests. The "Yellow Vest" uprising might just be the beginning of more to come.
The burden of all Socialist nations is using other peoples money to service those that do not create wealth.

UNITED STATES - Not hardly a socialist country.
The top 1 percent of all taxpayers (taxpayers with AGIs of $465,626 and above) earned 20.58 percent of all AGI in 2014, but paid 39.48 percent of all federal income taxes. In 2014, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined.
If you look at ownership and wealth and or income by the top 1/2 of 1%, then you might understand why socialism and free enterprise need to be balanced. (They are not) Neither concept is all good or all bad, but first you have to understand them.
