    Default Horn Placement

Was stopped this weekend for a basic safety check. The horn I have is just a small hand held air horn that I can access. I was wondering what other people are using in their flats. Do most use a small air horn, or do some actually have a horn button mounted somewhere?

    Default horn

I have one of the pressurized can horns. I never knew a manual whistle would be legal. Cheaper and doesn't run out of air. My problem is the kids want to play with the can air horn. Both annoying and a problem if it is out of air when you are stopped. And of course they don't bother to tell me when it's out.

Get a small whistle from Wally World for $3, I've been stopped and told they are legal to use. I had a hand held canned air horn literally blow up in the side compartment of a boat once. Sitting in the sun for too long on a hot day. Didn't hurt the hull, blew the compartment wood loose off side of boat.

    Default Obnoxious

I figure that the purpose of having an audible attention getter is just that - for what ever reason. We have always used the air can and everyone knows how well the sound travels from these deals. A whistle may pass inspection but you would turn blue trying to get another boat to hear you, let alone someone on shore from the middle of the lake. I recently found the Ooouuuga horn I had purchased to secretly replace the original horn on my wife's car. Just thought it would be funny as hell the first time she hit it. Couldnt find a good place to mount it so it was on the shelf. Just to be obnoxious, I mounted it up under the deck of my flat since it has a way of amplifying every other noise produced by the boat. It is soooo loud, that it will work really well at displacing un-expecting passengers. However, this weekend I tested it out on the water and it didnt work near as well as I expected it to at a distance. I still think it is funny as hell, but I will continue to depend on the air horn and have this electrical option as a backup. Oh, and I mounted the toggle switch under my leg on the front bench seat support next to the bilge pump switch. (The extra wires will be used for the kill switch I just got from Rex)

    I dont NO much.
I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
