I was born in California but left before I was three months old. Do I win the award for the smartest transplant?

I think CA is probably the most beautiful state in the Union...loved growing up there...but it's beauty is overridden by it's politics and illegal immigration...my opinion. Rules and Regs have killed it. When you have to pay an impact fee of 68.00 to boat on Bass Lake...something is surely wrong...again IMO...I'm not selling Idaho...in fact that would be crazy for me to do...I just think when you live in the CA setting it is easy to watch it go to Hell without even noticing. It happens so slow...but for a guy like me who comes and goes out of the state...it is so apparent its crazy...

Your observations are on point RCL.... If my wife would even consider leaving the state (we're both 5th gen Californians), I'd be your next door neighbor

    Default California Exodus

RCL's comments are spot on. I lived in California for most of my life. The last 32 years in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains. When I retired in 2006, I knew that I would need to find a location that we could afford to live comfortably on my "reduced" income. We wanted a place on a lake, and a slower pace. I researched for six months using the website www.lakehouse.com (It lists homes on lakes all over the country)

We ended up in southern MO on Table Rock Lake. It is a beautiful area and the lake has about 800 miles of shoreline. Three rivers form the lake, very similar to Shasta. We were lucky to sell at the peak of the CA real estate market. For what we got for our place in the SC mtns. we purchased a 3000 sf home plus a slip in a community dock a golf cart ride away. On top of that, we had $$ left over to invest that supplements our income. We moved in on Thanksgiving 2006. Needless to say, I am very thankful for all of my blessings.

i agree with RCL too . i was just giving him shit .. being a property owner of 40 acres in the sierra foothills. i'm so close to selling and moving out of state cause politics and immigrants and cost of living/taxes are ruining it.. if i could only click my heels and go back to like the 70's and 80's lol when it wasn't so bad here..

Billdoe I got to go back to Redinger Lake about three years ago..went to Bass Lake for a week and went to Redinger twice in that week. I have to say...leaving North Fork and driving in threw me back almost 60 years. It had not changed at all...but it was deceiving...because you know the underlying current of politics and taxation and immigration. They affect every acre of that beautiful state..Ruined.
