    Default Rack and Pinion Steering

Anyone run one on their small v-drive as opposed to the cable system? I am restoring a 18 sanger and have both set ups. Its going to be more of a cruiser than a drag boat. Any downside to the rack? Thanks

Go with the cable steering, R&P's have play that can not adjusted out.

Rack and Pinion or steering box? My cousin used to run a "Hemi" steering box under the deck and about a 1" shaft back to the rudder, there are a couple high dollar Schiada's that run the 'solid steering". What set up do you have is this an old tele flex unit that uses the Morse cables? If its Morse cable I am in agreement with
Bubble top, go with the cable and pully.

It is the Teleflex style helm. Thanks!

Got a 19' Schiada in the garage right now with a sprint car steering box, long shaft to the back and bell crank to the rudder you can check out next time you are out here.

I've wondered about using a Vega steering box. It's light weight, it has little or no slop and reduces or eliminates most of the torque like cables. I never really looked into it because everyone uses cables, and there is usually a reason. Maybe it's because that what works and every does it. Any opinions?

The "Hemi" brand box that my cousin ran was similar to a vega box, I believe it was original equipment on his 69 Eliminator flat and I should say Runs as he still uses it. These are the best pics I have of the set up.
