    Default Another new guy

Howdy! New guy from the Portland area. Just picked up and 78 Southwind 20' as a home for a 396 I built for a different marine project.

Short story is I have a semi-restored flatty that I realise now just isn't going to work now that I find myself being a "family guy". Having ll the parts for a BBC in a v-drive and the spousal unit telling me I can have another land toy I picked up a 78 SouthWind 20' Jet with a bad engine. The boat has seen better days but is actually in good shape after you get past the cosmetics. Now the fun begins in getting the interior cleaned up after 4 years of storage in a barn. My painter/bodyman is coming by on Monday to take a look at it since it's faded nasty yelly with blue striping.

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

Welcome, there are quite a few performance boaters up here, but only a small percentage on the forum. Makes it tough to organize things.
    Where do you launch?

    Currently I don't.

Strange turn of events in the past week. The hull I had originally put an offer on ended up coming my way for about 1/2 of what I first offered so the Southwind is going to be leaving. (if anybody knows someone looking for a cheap hull or parts send them my way)

I'll be sending the block to the machine shop this coming week while I remove the Olds 455 from a 74 Kona. Once I get the block back it's on to assembly and installation. Still missing a few minor parts but hey, pushrods are easy to find. Once together I should end up around 475 HP from a 396 Chev w/ a berk 12JC

The boat is more of a family hobby for me. For several years now I've spent the nicer parts of the year violating traffic laws in NW Oregon on a sportbike.
