Bless yer heart! I was a corporate pilot in Anchorage for a couple of years, and can appreciate the freedom and beauty. I am in Florida now. I hope you can hook up with some like minded people in AK.
It would be awsome to run up there, even with the short season.
Good luck, Gordon
I'm in Wasilla, about 45 miles North of Anchorage. I've talked with a few guys who have been around here, they say up until 6 or 8 years ago there were boat races at two different lakes close by. They stopped having them on one of the lakes because all the jet skis running right through the course ??? The other I guess just fell by the wayside probably not enough boats is my guess. Anyway, I know of 20 or so performance boats in the area, I'm going to do my best to get all of us together next summer. Will keep you all posted.
Cool, I'm up in Wasilla 45 miles North of Anchorage, bout 3-1/2 hours from Kenai. My 22 year old step son comes up every year from WA and sets near White Salmon. When the season's over he spends a month with us sportfishing and visiting his brother, my 15 year old son. A 12 minute drive from my house is world class Silver fishing, a 5 mile cruise down a slough in the sq back grumman sport boat and then the fun begins.... then we do the Halibut trip to Deepcreek. Then we do the dip net dance..... but because he's from outta state .... he can't "dip net" all he can do is "ride" in the boat...... and of course being the law abiding people we are he never ever (most of the time) holds the net (for more than a while) at the Kenai .... You guys smacked em hard at the mouth last year with that EO, biggest run since ..... what was it 270 thousand reds in one day ???? Give a shout next year, we'll hook up down there
Yes, we had a good week there the middle of July. Couldn't hardly keep the fish out of the nets. Dip netters killed them also. All the local processors got "plugged" and most put their fisherman on limits as they had too many totes of fish sitting in the "que" and not enough man power or storage to deal with them. I good thing I suppose........
