    Default Tempe Marine

Looks like they bit the bullet. Some one said they went under, just called and the phone is off. I've heard several bad things about the service department as of late, that will kill any one right there. Sad to see it's gone they have been around for a long time, the name any ways. I know they took it hard when OMC went under as well, sitting on motors for years. Hard to sell them with no one to cover it if it breaks down.

They were doing site work on Friday. All the signage is gone. Looks like they are done.

Editor’s Note: Arizona Boating & Watersports is pleased to announce that Tempe Marine is now owned by Scott McGraw. Following is his interview with us in late April.

    Q. Scott, you are the new owner of Tempe Marine. How long have you been the owner, and from whom did you purchase the business?
    A. I purchased Tempe Marine in January from Susan and Gary Williams, who started the business in 1977.
    Q. How did you get started in the marine business? What is your background?
    A. I was a sales rep for Skeeter Boats before purchasing Tempe Marine. Mark Kile, who is the Western States Sales Manager for Skeeter, hired me to help with several of the mountain states, including Arizona.
After getting to know Susan and Gary — and learning of their desire to retire — I reached an agreement to buy them out, and it's been a pretty exciting time every since.
The closing was just a week and a half before the Phoenix Boat Show, which is a pretty hectic time in the boat business. But, we pulled it off and had a great show.

    Q. Tell me a bit about your family.

No one just shuts their doors after 30 years...do they??? I could see down sizing to a smaller location.

Maybe Customer Service was different. If your getting family type service then your just a number. News travels fast. I'm not judging Kile. 30 years then WhamO,,,, Nada.
Its rough out there and if your not the big fish eating the little fish your prolly the little fish gettin eatin.

I don't think the likes of Bass Pro Shops help sales any. 60k for a bass boat is a tuff nut to swallow. BPS has been around for years and has the buying power and the good conections with Merc. They took it in the ass and hard when OMC went under, sitting on motors no one wanted. And I've benn on other forums that had bad reviews of the place, service was not good at all. And I'm sure it hurt them moving from a location that they were at when they first opened up, that's a god way for people to loose track of you.

If they aren't puttin up signs with their new location, then it's logical to assume their dust, right? Don't know the shop, but hate to see any biz go down...

I believe they went tits up........slow economy & lending options becoming tight really hurts the boating industry.

Pulled this off their website -

My brother had HORRIBLE customer service from Tempe Marine 2 years ago and never went back. Sorry to see any business go under but you have to take care of your customers, especially loyal ones.
