Default Need advice on Consigning a boat.

I have had my boat for sale on boattrader for about 10 days and have had several calls, but nothing firm.

I am considering consigning it in Lake Havasu or maybe socal, the boat is currently in Phoenix.

Does anybody have any good or bad experiences with consigning?

Does anybody have any recomendations as to where would be the best place to consign the boat?

Does anybody know how the typical consignment contract works?

Should I just wait and keep running my add?

    Thanks,

    C-ya

P.S. The boat is a 684hp twin outboard Playcraft tritoon

I've read of a few stories, where the loan got paid, but the owner never received a check for the balance.

Have you tried craigslist, riverdaves, and this forum? It takes time to sell a boat.

What boat are you selling? PICS

If you take it to the boat brokers they will mark the price up so high that it
likely will not sell and it will sit outside in the weather then eventually you will get fed up and come take it back.
Sad to see cause they really could move alot of boats through there if they would be alittle more flexible $$.

Most of these guys want to make a killing. They want you to take a whole sale price and then sell for retail, yea ok. But they do you no favors, they are salesman like car salesman. They will use your higher priced boat to sell another one that is cheaper. Your giving them more "free" inventory to bring people in to look at, they don't care if it's your boat they sell, as long as the sell one.
NEVER give them a title or water craft cert, NEVER. You may never see a dime or your boat again. I've done it several times. One time was to close for comfort. Thank god I had the boat on display at firebird. I brough the boat back on the monday after the drags to find the Fed's locked the gates on the dealer, he was a scumm bag. It took people months to get their boats back. That was the old Boat Barn on the Tempe Scottsdale boarder. That was close.

Had a boat on consignment at the Boat Brokers. Memorial Day weekend and I see my boat cruising thru the channel and I yell out to the guy driving it. He tells me he just bought the boat and I begin to celebrate. Get off the water and there's a message on my answering machine from the boat brokers. I call them up and they tell me they have an offer on my boat, would I take 3 grand less. I tell them BS, I saw the boat out and the guy told me he bought it. They try to tell he was just out for a test drive. A test drive with a boat full of peeps, crusing the channel with a boat full of people, I don't think so. Told them I'll be right over to pick up my check.

What did I say Scum Bags the lot of them. Thats why most custom boat builders sell there own stuff, they don't need that added bullshit from dealers.

    what a dirt bag.

My deal on the consignment was I told them how much I wanted, priced it a little lower than market so they could make some money too. What ever they sold the boat for didn't matter, just as long as I got the amount that was agreed to upfront. Apparently they sold the boat for at least the amount I wanted, then tried to see if they could get 3K more from the sale. It was my lucky day that I saw the new owner out in it and coud call the Boat Brokers bluff.
