Default Lake Powell in July/Aug 2010

Ok, so I know I'm way early but I have to put in for my vacation for next year and wanted to go somewhere with the family we havn't been before.

Here's the plan.... Lake Powell either in July or August on a house boat with at least my 21ft cruiser and probably another similar cruiser in tow.

Probably going to have my family with our 3 littles ones, my brother and his 4 little ones, and about 5 or 6 other adults. I'm thinking about 1 week on the water/house boat.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated and if you have pictures, maps or other that would be even better. Like I said I have never been there so I'm looking for the must see's, and of course the what not to do's there.

    Thanks in advance.

I went w/ a lagre group in Aug. 08 had a blast w/ Titties&Beer and Mardanzi. Check w/ both of them. They've lived in Page, AZ and know lots about Powell. If you go to my profile and click on albums there are many pics from that trip. I had the smallest boat in the group, 20ft. Daytona V-Drive.

Cool thanks. Trying to get the majority of the family involved. Might end up renting 2 house boats to fit everyone. We'll see who is in when it's time to pony up for the boats.

Are you going to the southern(Page-Wahweep) end or northern(Bullfrog) end of the lake? Weather will be warm most likely, be prepared for afternoon storms, but usually not long lasting. If you are not used to the higher elevation lakes, realize the sun will burn you faster than Havasu. Most of all, don't make definate plans on where and when you have to be at certain places on the lake, just take it as it comes-much more relaxing and enjoyable.

Still not sure where we are heading out from. About half of the potential group is coming from Colorado or further east and the rest of us are from SoCal.

From what I can tell all the houseboats are rented through the same place (I know you can board at a couple different locations) so I guess that narrows down the options unless I'm missing something.

We plan on touring as much as possible and want to make the most of it but definately don't plan on a tight schedule for anything.

As far as South vs. North. Is there a difference in the population and crowding on the beachs to set up the house boat? I know It's huge and there should be plenty of beach for everyone but we might have about 8 kids under the age of 6 running around and I don't want to have to mess with keeping them out of the way of other groups.

The southern end of the lake has more beach to choose from. There are some beach areas mid lake and north but they get harder to find the further up river you get.
I would start from the south, Wahweap or Antelope marinas if you want alot of choices.
Here's a nice map with some red where there are beach areas sometimes. This changes according to elevation.

Houseboats can be rented from Aramark http://www.lakepowell.com (Wahweep, Bullfrog) or Antelope Point http://www.antelopepointlakepowell.com You can check with both on prices and availability.

At the south end of the lake they have the town of Page not to far away with grocery stores to buy all the food and stock your house boat. I don't think they have that up at BullFrog
