    Default Havasu Camping

Trying to plan a camping trip to havasu. We come several times a year and usually end up at Lake Havasu State Park Campground (Windsor). Thinking of trying to find some of the 125 boat only accessible sites along the river, but info is limited about these sites. Has anyone else done this, and any recommedations on which ones/areas are good to go for? Pics of the sites would also be helpful, but not entirely necessary. I've found a map and the sites appear scattered randomly, but i dont really recall seeing any of these sites, or anyone at them, when cruising down (up?) the river?... Also, best ramp to launch from for these? I've only launched from the Windsor ramp, but think there are some other ones that may be better/closer??? Although i do like the seperate PWC/Jet Boat ramp to avoid the lines on busy weekends. Launched 3 times over Labor Day Weekend, and no wait at all!!

    Any input would be appreciated...

    Thanks.

We tent camp. I was thinking of the 125 BLM spots that are listed, but cant seem to find too many details regarding these spots.

I thought you couldn't overight camp on Havasu, except in the designated camp grounds. BLM campsites are for day camping only (I was told).

I'd like to know if it's any different
I'd agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

I don't know how primitive you want to be. There is plenty of camp sites along the Az. side just south of the channel. As you head down river they will be on the left side. across from Copper Canyon there are about twelve. Four are on an island (Balance rock), then as you go down farther there are some at Steam Boat cove, there are more as you go towards the dam North of Sand Point, next to that there is Cattail Cove with launch ramp and store/ resturaunt. Then between there and the dam is Havasu Springs w/ store & resturaunt. I don't know if they still have camping there but there are plenty to go to. Calif. side is limited and there is Black Meadows with full services. By the city on the ca. side is some run by the Indians. I prefer Three Amigos which is close to Sand Point and Black Meadows for they both have gas at decent prices.
There are "day use" as well as full time.

Thanks for the replies... Not necessarily looking for something primitive specifically, but dont mind it either if it is. Just wanting something diiferent to switch it up a bit. Like i mentioned, we usually do Windsor Camground, or LH State Park rather, and have never had any problems there. Its enjoyable and the sites are pretty nice. Plus, still close enough to the water. Just wondering if the other sites are worth it, or stick with what we know...
