    I talked with him on the way home Sunday night. He's gotta have a MRI on his knee but other than that he is ok. Alittle tore up about his boat but all and all he is goin good!!!!

    Read a post he made that something happened and hull met the shore..glad he is ok!! Is the boat salvageable or toast? Regardless he is ok and thats what matters.

    Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

    I guess I am fine. The boat is fixable. The guy that built it was there right after it happened. He can fix it.

    Bumps and bruises everywhere. I did have on a lifejacket. Did not get tossed out of the boat. I got lucky in several ways. You guys with pretty engine mounting plates better hope they are strong too. Mine are bent beyond repair. The motor moved forward far enough to take the yoke away from the shaft in the jetaway.

    Oh. That jetaway is great for warming up your engine. I can't say it works otherwise. I know from personal experience now that coming down from a 100+ pass what the loudest sound is. That is the water rushing against your hull and your heart beating. Not a single "click" from the jetaway.

    Got seen in ER on Sunday - was going to try and wait to see normal family doc on Monday but pain was too great Sunday afternoon. Have appointment with orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to do MRI or CT scan (don't know which) and see how bad the knee is. My right knee made contact with the tach twice (two nice dents - one hit left a lil meat and hair stuck in it) and left hit dash pretty hard.

    I read "Jerry's Message" on Youngbloodjetboats.com - and kinda passed right by it. I have worn my lifejacket since then on every hard pass I have made. From NOW on - if I make a pass in that boat, I will have a helmet on, neck restraint, and ballistic shorts to go with that lifejacket.

    When it happened, it was like it was in slow motion. You hear people say that, but until you have it happen, you won't know. It seems I had time to think about jumping out (was headed between trees heading for bank), I got to see I had time to position myself to sit up straighter so my mouth wouldn't hit steering wheel (I am 6'5" so that helped - but after the impact my chin still came down from the whiplash) - and was able to make the choice to not brace myself as hard as I could, knowing I would lose against the inertia and be hurt worse.

    Banged up left leg and knee is the worst of it. Banged up right knee, right hand has a cut from the metal on the steering wheel, neck and back sore from whiplash, left shoulder sore (I've had chronic dislocations and two surgeries there in the past from back in the Army days) and I left some pride back on that river bank.

    At Wheatland - the tech guy told me I needed to replace my engine mounting bolts - I didn't have enough thread showing. He was right. Not something I had looked at. When the boat was put together, it had the correct length in there, but I got on a polishing campaign earlier this year in preparation to come to California. I took the long ones out and swapped them for shorter polished ones, intending to swap them back. Well - after I tore up the engine with only a couple of weeks before the Cali trip - and couldn't get the boat fixed in time, I forgot. I am VERY lucky that the engine didn't come tap me on the shoulder.

    This is the second time I've busted up a boat over 100.

    Two down. Seven more to go, right?

    This boat is getting a pop-off. I have been searching. I see there are choices now. Can someone make an educated recommendation as to which one is better and why?

    Been there done that buddy, glad you were solo and was able to walk away !!! I had Barb with me when I put mine on the bank and that was the worst feeling in the world !!!!

    Glad you are not hurt any worse than you are Mailman. Most don't realize the energy/force that is in the water at the speeds of these boats. Thanks for assisting me a few years ago when I blew the keel out of my old TX-20. Sent you a PM with a little info.

    this is what has kept me from going out and running my boat hard time after time at the events i go to.

    so scared of something like this happening and getting hurt,killed or the same to a spectator or fellow racers.

    the water is never good at any of the lake events and i just refuse to play at these speeds PERIOD!

    i am glad you not as bad as it could have been and wish you the best.

    your boat is in the best of hands

    get your self fixed and focus on your family and be thankful you still get to squeeze on the wife and little man!!!!!! b/c some are not so lucky

    No problem, Steven - I know without a doubt you would (and have already) helped others in a similar situation.


    My heroes this time were Scott and Maggie Seastrom and Robert and Tonya Scott.

    Scott hooked the boat up after making sure I was ok and got me in his boat and Maggie drove me over to the ramp. Robert was the tugboat captain and drug the wounded sled to the ramp. I think Tonya was emotional support for Robert who was squeamish at the sight of a Lil blood. :-)

    My evening physicians were Katie and LeAnn. Ice packs and hydrogen peroxide and bandages. Good crew!

    Trav - I know many (including myself) have wondered why you never ran ur shit hard at a gathering, especially at the Dig. Well - now I know. I could not imagine what I would feel like if this had happened and I went into another boat or crowd of bystanders watching.

    You are smarter than u look buddy!

    All the hauling ass on water for me (outside of testing) will now be on the race course! Every "pass" will be in full gear.

    It's time I learn from these little "lessons".

    Bottom line Brother is i drink to much and thats what i like to do when at gatherings

    i worry to much(only b/c things in my past have happened and hurt me)my job i have no paid time off if i cant get up work on the vehicles in my shop then i dont get paid and lose future jobs b/c of the people being un happy.

    regardless it does not mean i think everyone should never do anything stupid,lol!!! i do it everyday.

    i mean no disrespect towards anyone in anyway. the times i did choose to run my boat all out were under my terms and the water had to be very stable for my liking.

    i use to run the crap out of the ole tub SJ but shit it was never close to the speeds my winger is capable of so it never bothered me and yes i was ejected 2 times form the sob while i was trying to get it ironed out( before Tigers help).it hurt but was not as fat and was younger.


    in no way were you at fault for what happened and im glad what happened was not a worse situation!

    i want everyone to have fun and play hard i just personally will choose my times and the other times i will Party down and talk smack!


    you will heal and the boat will get fixed

    Take it from somebody who has done the same thing as you did... but on the race track in Waco... just because you didn't hear "...not a single "click..." does not mean that the jetaway wasn't working....!

    In between all of the praying, cussing and screaming like a 3rd grade school girl on the playground that you were doing as that boat was headed towards the bank clearly overshadows your hearing it working...!!! Trust me.... I thought the same thing when it happened to me...!

    Scotty sent me the pics and you planted it pretty good... but Seaweed can patch her up...!

    Glad you're okay and leave that tach just like it is in the boat so that you remember to have all your safety gear on next time...!
