Top speed guestimate?

My 2002 Eliminator Daytona 26 has a stock 496 in it now, not a HO, so its at 375hp. I can get 67 mph out of it during the hot summer months with a 24 prop, half full tanks and two on board.

Over the winter the engine is coming out and by next season I will be at 650-700hp with the new engine and drive set up.

Most likely a 28 prop, maybe a 30 will be in order, but I was just trying to think what I may get out of this hull with 650-700 hp?

Thanks, Walt

you can run either or on the standoff box. the merc sportmaster is good but the best speed for a bravo style lower is the Imco lower, try the 2 inch shorty and that will get you very close. It may run a 1.50 gear with a 28pitch prop and run the motor to 5600-5800 should net you what you want.

My buddy has a 28 Daytona that started life with the same motor, but he pulled it and swapped in a Teague 720 that he found a screamin deal on at offshoreonly. Think he is running an IMCO drive now, have to get back to you on that one, but he finally has it all dialed in. Last month after screwin around all weekend, four heads in the boat, close to half tanks, he got 92GPS.

For a side note, when it was all said and done, he said it would have probably been cheaper to have just bought a new boat. GOOD LUCK!!!

yep, thats on the list........and yes it would probably be cheaper to just buy another boat already set up, that would be the case if anyone was buying used boats these days.

I like my boat alot, and could not find one that I like better that would rationalize really giving mine away in order to replace it with a faster one.

I have a 2001 Daytona. When I bought mine I was told that at a dealer show that year, a 575 and tanks full for test rides, the boat tested at 84 mph. So with the right prop you should be roughly 8-10 mph faster than that. Mine ran 115 mph with 900 hp.

Having the 496 redone with all forged internals, ARP head studs, cam per Whipple specs, heads redone, headers, and Whipple at 8 pounds of boost. CBM in Ontario builds my motors for my sand cars and is giving me a great deal on the engine work. I looked at all of the other options, buy another boat, buy another engine, etc., but for the money this turned out to be the best bet.

I just got an XR drive yesterday, also cutting a scoop into to the rear hatch and upgrading to dual ram steering.

I really like the boat but feel bad for it. It is just crying out to go faster. 65 mph in a Daytona 26 is about as exciting as taking a nap, the hull hasnt even come into its own yet.

When all is said and done I will have about $65k into my boat total. If I can go 90 for $65k, I will be very happy.

I just happened to see this one in the classifieds. I dont know what the 575sc dynoed at but, this should be close to what you are building.

2002 eliminator daytona 26 ft ,with full canopies, 575sci blown factory mercrusier , 2inch shorter drive , runs just shy of 90mph on new gps ,dual hydralic steering , very nice stereo system with sub woofers and ipod hook up , just had the trailor rebunked ,dual batteries ,

What gear ratio, but maybe a 32 labbed bravo 1 and you are looking @ 101-104:)devil IMO

my 25' warlock cat would run a best of 96mph on the gps, with a slapped
together stock 502 with a 2.3 whipplecharger making 6psi, and a lab fin.32
pitch bravo I prop. ( although I did blow it up , and no I didn't build the
motor! ) at about 5400/5500 rpm. I am going thru the motor now, and
am building it the way I want it, BTW, what cam specs did whipple give you? been trying to find some info on what works well w/ the whipple,
but can't seem to find anything! sorry if i'm going off topic on this thread:)

Get a hold of CSTRAUB on the boards. He can dial you in on the cam.

Curious to see how this goes, I have a 27/496HO and am going to repower this winter. My question was go new engine(TCM) or build this one with a Raylar kit. Placecraft, I followed yours... why did you sell it? More power?

#30 ·
Yep, I sold it for more power. I could tell that 655hp was just touching on what my hull could do, plus my buddy's are all in the 800 to 900 range. I could run with them but not out run them. I was talking to Dustin Whipple about heads and upgrades to get my motor to 800hp. He had a new 540 he built that a customer backed out on. I struck a deal with him. By the way, he dynoed it this weekend and it made 945hp @ 6100 rpms. He said he was going to play with it a little more because he thought it would do 1000hp. That should be the last motor I need to buy. I will start a new thread on it when it arrives.

Placecraft,
Where did find the ad for the 26 Daytona that you posted pictures for this thread? I am looking for a 26 Daytona and am interested in finding more information on that boat. Thanks in advance.

I am going to stay with the XR for now. I am changing the gears to 1:36 as we speak. I am pretty easy on the throttle so hopefully it will last a while. Most of my boating consist of me and the wife and kid cruising around at 50 to 60. It will only see a few hard runs a season, and only in good water.

General reply, if you know anyone looking, I have a 2001 26' Daytona for sale. I have a boating buddy who is attempting to sell his Scarab to buy my boat. However if that doesn't work out, it is on the market. The boat is without power right now, I removed it to use in a 30' Daytona I bought this summer. However I do have a aluminum headed 496 with blower pistons that can be installed. I am asking $48,000.00 with motor, $42,000 without it motor but with XR drive. The drive has a MAX Machine Worx billet tower and 1.26 gears. The boat has dual external steering, HP gimble. I will include the Lightning headers with the boat whether the motor is installed or not.
