One of the rarest Hydrostreams out there the Virage is a cool little cuddy. Hydrostream only made a handful of these boats. Going from stage one to stage four the boats reach well over 100 m.p.h.

This boat is in great shape for 30 years old. She will receive a new transom ,floor section and then removal of the splash well. With an all gel coat interior and snap in carpet it will be a nice little unit. With the local DNR issuing ticket to pickle forks before they leave the no wake this customer sold a perfect Mirage Ski Racer to restore this unit.

When completed at our shop we are sending it over to www.mitchertcustompainting.com for a complete paint job from the chine up and we are replacing the oem scheme.

I will keep you updated as the project moves forward.

Hydrostream Boat Tales

Hydrostream was the boat I had to have back in the 80's. I remember meeting Howard Pipkorn who owned Hydrostream at the Havasu race in about 1979 or 80 along with one of his drivers, Ron Baker, I think, and his sales guy Jay Scheffler. He had 4 or 5 boats in the race. At the start on the first buoy 2 of them were taken out in a wreck. Great race though.

I had a friend who had a Vandal with a Johnson V4 140. He had bored the block out to accept V6 sleeves and pistons. The boat ran just over 100 in time trials.

I had a V-King, a XT mod v and 2 YT mod v's. The V-King was about 400 pounds and quick. I had a 2.4 Mercury drag setup with a Seebold 6 carb intake and nitrous. I turned it over backward at 102 and about went to see my maker. Fortunately, it wasn't my time and I have lived to see my gkids. Life is good. Quent

some cool mlded inserts

Not to many people were using all composite structures. This is a good exmple of the first unibody boats per say. On the gunnel edge at the aft section you can see they started with a viper I think and extended this transom. The same hull was intended for the fishing boat. The transom and floor section is out and there is no true bulk head in the boat? The outside sponsons are filled with foam and we are going to install two,one at the aft seat area and one at the crawl through. Not bad for the age of the boat.

Super cool project and very neat that the original color scheme will be re-done. That must have been a pretty progressive color scheme back in the day. Could that ever take an Etec 300 or is it getting the mighty Merc 280 for power?

Fast hulls

I had a [Vegas] one of the last ones, bought it from the last owner of Hydrostream he went back east and has made a newer version. I had mine in Havazoo a few times, did 90mph [GPS]with a 225, Damm could that thing turn - as it was made for circle racing. Same color sceme as the one on this thread.

I have a 20' Vpad Vulture that will get my iron sleeved 2.4 merc some day... Sigh... i cut out the splashwell and put in huge knee braces and all sorts of bracing to keep it from cracking up the corners of the transom AGAIN... :D

My buddy got me hooked on the Hydrostreams, he ran a V-King all over the midwest and south at just a fuzz over 100 MPH with a 2.5 FI Merc with spray... Bob Cottman build his powerheads...

Cool boat that Vegas!!! I like it...

After further consideration the customer put a hold on this project. We removed the deck, transom and sections of floors and it is ready for rebuilding but he hld off.

My first boat ride I ever took my wife for a ride in was a vking with a screaming 2.5

She looked at me held on and said " hit it".....
